The Aquarium does not dance — атмосферная визуальная новелла для ценителей сюрреализма, глубоких сюжетов и тревожных образов. Она впечатляет стилем, музыкой и вариативностью концовок, но из‑за абстрактности, текстовой направленности и краткости может не подойти тем, кто ищет динамичный геймплей или прямолинейную историю.
The Aquarium does not dance is a short but memorable horror adventure that takes an ordinarily peaceful location and transforms it into an unsettling maze of mystery, danger, and emotional uncertainty. Developed by 橙々 and Gotcha Gotcha Games and published by Gotcha Gotcha Games, the game uses RPG Maker MZ to deliver a focused experience built around exploration, puzzles, character interactions, and branching outcomes. Its relatively small scale works in its favor, allowing the developers to concentrate on atmosphere and storytelling instead of stretching the concept across an unnecessarily lengthy campaign. The story follows a girl searching for her best friend after an aquarium is transformed into a disturbing world filled with strange creatures known as Creepies. This simple objective gives the protagonist an immediate personal reason to continue deeper into a place that clearly wants her gone. The aquarium is an especially effective choice for a horror setting. Spaces normally associated with calm lighting, colorful aquatic life, and relaxing observation become uncomfortable once familiarity gives way to darkness and abnormality. The contrast between beauty and danger provides much of the game's identity and keeps exploration interesting even without elaborate visual technology. Horror is present throughout the adventure, but the game does not rely entirely on frightening encounters. Its Steam description deliberately characterizes the horror elements as mild, making this more accessible than games built around relentless scares or graphic violence. Suspense instead emerges from uncertainty, strange environments, pursuing creatures, and the gradual discovery of what has happened. The Creepies provide a physical threat that prevents exploration from becoming completely relaxed, while the mysteries surrounding the aquarium create a different kind of tension. The result is a horror experience that can appeal even to players who usually find more aggressive examples of the genre exhausting. Puzzle solving is equally important to the overall design. Players must pay attention to their surroundings, investigate the aquarium, and overcome challenges while continuing the search for the protagonist's missing friend. These puzzles give exploration a purpose beyond simply reaching the next story scene. Escape sequences and encounters with dangerous entities introduce moments of urgency, creating a useful contrast with the slower investigative sections. The controls remain deliberately straightforward, with directional keys handling movement, Shift enabling dashing, Z used for confirmation and fast forwarding, and X opening the menu or canceling actions. This simplicity allows the puzzles, story, and atmosphere to remain the primary focus. The supporting cast also gives the adventure additional personality. Several distinctive girls appear alongside the protagonist, introducing character-driven elements into what could otherwise have been a lonely journey through a corrupted environment. Their comparatively charming presentation creates an interesting contrast with the unsettling creatures and threatening locations surrounding them. This combination of appealing character designs and sinister circumstances helps establish the game's recognizable style, particularly for players familiar with Japanese RPG Maker horror adventures. Choices play an important role because The Aquarium does not dance contains multiple endings. Decisions can influence how the story concludes, providing an incentive to reconsider actions and replay portions of the adventure after reaching one conclusion. This feature is especially useful given the approximately three-hour playtime advertised on Steam. A single run is intentionally compact, but the possibility of different endings extends the experience for players interested in uncovering every outcome. The short duration also helps maintain narrative momentum because there is little need for filler or…
The Aquarium does not dance is a free horror adventure game where we play as a girl searching for her best friend inside an aquarium that has somehow turned into a terrifying place. We have to explore the aquarium, solve puzzles and avoid strange creatures called Creepies while trying to figure out what happened. The best part of the game is definitely the atmosphere. An aquarium should normally feel peaceful, but turning it into a dark horror setting works really well. The strange creatures, darker areas and creepy moments make exploring feel uncomfortable without relying on constant jump scares. The puzzles are another important part of the game. We have to search around the aquarium, find clues and work out what different things are connected to. Some puzzles can be quite challenging, but getting through one without being given the answer feels really satisfying. The story also gives us a reason to keep going. We are not just exploring for no reason. We are trying to find our friend and understand the strange world we have ended up in. There are several characters to meet and multiple endings, so some of our choices can actually change how the story finishes. The visual style works really well too. The RPG Maker MZ graphics are simple, but the cute character designs mixed with the disturbing creatures create a really strange contrast. Some of the horror works better because the game does not look like a traditional realistic horror game. The biggest problem is the length. The original game takes around three hours to finish, so we can get through it fairly quickly. The multiple endings give us some reason to replay it, but there is still not a huge amount of content compared with a full horror adventure. Another issue is that some of the puzzles can be confusing. We can sometimes spend quite a while searching for something that we missed, and a few solutions are not immediately obvious. The horror is also fairly mild, so we should not expect something extremely scary. Overall, The Aquarium does not dance is a really enjoyable little horror adventure with a memorable setting, interesting puzzles and a good story. The short length and occasional confusing puzzle stop it from being something amazing, but the atmosphere and strange world make it well worth playing, especially since it is free. Rating: 7/10
