Space Hole 2016 is an independent physics-based platformer developed by Sam Atlas and published by Mr. Sam Atlas. Inspired by classic marble-rolling games, it places players inside a transparent sphere that serves as humanity's experimental method of traveling faster than light. The premise is intentionally bizarre, sending players through strange dimensions connected by the mysterious Space Hole while embracing an offbeat sense of humor and an imaginative science-fiction setting. Rather than focusing on an elaborate storyline, the game builds its appeal around unusual environments, creative level design, and the simple satisfaction of mastering momentum-driven movement. At its heart, the experience revolves around guiding the rolling sphere through a series of increasingly demanding obstacle courses. Every stage requires careful control of speed, balance, and timing, making momentum just as important as precision. The game features well over one hundred levels spread across multiple themed hub worlds, each introducing fresh layouts and environmental hazards that prevent the gameplay from becoming repetitive. While individual stages are relatively short, they encourage experimentation and repeated attempts, allowing players to gradually improve their technique without forcing them through lengthy sections after every mistake. As the challenge escalates, success becomes more dependent on player skill than luck, making each completed level feel genuinely rewarding. One of the game's strongest qualities is its willingness to embrace creativity instead of realism. Each world features its own surreal identity, from bizarre landscapes to imaginative visual themes that constantly reinforce the feeling of traveling through impossible dimensions. The abstract art direction may not compete with high-budget productions in technical detail, but it succeeds in giving Space Hole 2016 a memorable personality. The colorful presentation, unusual architecture, and constantly shifting scenery help each location stand apart, making exploration feel fresh throughout the adventure. Complementing the visuals is an energetic soundtrack that perfectly matches the game's eccentric atmosphere, adding excitement to both relaxed exploration and more intense platforming sequences. The controls are straightforward enough for newcomers to understand, yet the physics system provides enough depth to reward practice and mastery. Small adjustments in movement can have a significant impact on the ball's trajectory, encouraging players to learn how slopes, jumps, and momentum interact with one another. This creates an enjoyable learning curve where confidence grows naturally with experience. Support for both keyboard and controller allows players to choose the input method that best suits their preferences, while modest hardware requirements make the game accessible on a wide variety of systems. The developer also includes a clear warning regarding flashing visual effects, demonstrating consideration for players who may be sensitive to intense lighting. Despite its many strengths, Space Hole 2016 is not without its limitations. Its unconventional presentation and intentionally strange sense of humor may not appeal to everyone, particularly players searching for a deep narrative or realistic environments. The reliance on physics also means that later levels can become frustrating, as a single mistake often requires another careful attempt. However, these moments of challenge are balanced by responsive controls and compact level design that keeps retries quick and minimizes downtime. For fans of skill-based platformers, the demanding nature of the gameplay becomes part of the overall appeal rather than a drawback. Overall, Space Hole 2016 is a distinctive indie platformer that succeeds by committing fully to its unusual concept. Its imaginative premise, satisfying rolling mechanics, diverse collection of levels, and surreal visual style combine to create an…
This is my hole, it was made for me. I had to forcibly stop myself from playing after clearing the first few areas so that I would not lose myself in flow state.
Indie arcade game where you control a ball through surreal space levels, focusing on dexterity and physics ✅Awesome soundtrack, very dynamic, I like it ✅Over 100 different, easy levels ✅Very good price ✅Good, colorful graphics ❌Poor ball control on keyboard and mouse (I recommend using a gamepad). ❌The difficulty level is random. Level 100 can be significantly easier than, for example, level 10. ❌The camera sometimes makes control difficult. ✅✅ Verdict: Very Bad , Bad , Average , Decent , Good , Very Good (Rating scale for tested games) If you have any questions about my reviews, feel free to ask. I'm happy to answer them. All reviews are my own!! Best regards, King Viking Bezimienny, Polish Game Reviewer
