I would like to say, this game was good. Just a few scene that has bad audio quality. The story is a bit rushed, if you make it a little bit slower. I think it will be better. I would like to give 8/10
I genuinely thought I was just going to play this casually. Yeah, no. Now my teenage years have relapsed. I’m a grown-ass adult sitting in front of my computer at 2AM, staring at a dialogue option for five minutes like my life depends on it. Then after choosing it, I start overthinking everything. “Wait, did I say the wrong thing?” “Is she mad at me?” “Did I just ruin my chances?” Bro, I don’t even take my real-life relationships this seriously. The scariest part about this game is that it somehow digs up feelings I thought had been dead and buried for years. That feeling when you used to like someone so much that one random message from them could make your entire day, but if they suddenly sounded a little colder than usual, your brain would immediately collapse. Typing a reply. Deleting it. Typing it again. Changing one word. Deleting the whole thing. Meanwhile, you two aren’t even dating yet and your brain has already written 80 episodes of a romance drama. I thought I grew out of this. This game basically went: “Get up. Stop pretending you’re dead.” And the Norway setting makes everything ten times worse. The streets, the weather, being somewhere far from home, exchange student life, meeting someone you like, knowing that this entire chapter of your life is temporary… It creates this horrible, beautiful feeling of: “This is going to end someday.” And because you know it’s going to end, every meeting, every conversation, every tiny choice suddenly feels way more important than it should. At some point I genuinely didn’t want to keep clicking. Not because I was bored. Because every time I continued the story, I knew I was getting closer to the end of that little piece of youth. And suddenly I understood why the game is called *Love Begins with Goodbye*. ***. I thought I bought a romance game. Turns out I paid money for an autopsy of my youth. And after the autopsy, the game basically looks you in the eye and says: “See? You really did used to love someone like this.” The worst part is the game doesn’t even leave you alone after you close it. You just sit there for a while. Then suddenly you start remembering people from years ago. Things you never said. Moments you thought you would have more time for. Memories you haven’t thought about in forever. Like hello??? I came here to play a game. I did NOT consent to having my entire youth emotionally excavated. So yeah, if you’re already past the age where one “goodnight” text can make you smile at your phone like an idiot, I highly recommend this game. Because apparently it proves something kind of painful: Maybe you didn’t lose the ability to fall in love. Maybe it’s just been a long time since something made you feel that way. 10/10. Before playing: “How much emotional damage can a romance FMV game possibly do?” After playing: WHY THE *** IS MY YOUTH HAVING A SECOND WIND.
Love Begins with Goodbye I had to refund this game. For European players, this game is very difficult to play properly. To even get the dialogue and answer choices to appear, I had to change my system region. In my opinion, this is completely unnecessary and should not be required just to play the game normally. After I finally managed to get the game working, the next problem came up: the translation was not very good or pleasant to read. But the biggest problem for me was the achievements. I could unlock achievements inside the game, but they were not unlocked on Steam. The game tells me that I earned the achievement in its own achievement menu, but Steam does not register it. As someone who enjoys collecting achievements and getting 100% completion, this was extremely frustrating and completely ruined my motivation to continue playing. There seems to be some kind of communication problem between the game and Steam. Unfortunately, I don't know if this will ever be fixed. The game was last updated in August 2025, which also makes me question whether we can expect any future fixes or support from the developers. I really wanted to enjoy this game, but the technical problems, region requirement, translation issues, and broken Steam achievements were simply too much for me. I cannot recommend buying this game in its current state. If you are thinking about buying it, especially as an achievement hunter, think twice before spending your money. You may end up as disappointed as I was. Refunded.
