There's plenty of games that aim to be like Mega-Man. Or they say they're like Mega-Man. But they're not really like Mega-Man. I'm not sure if the devs claim this game is like Mega-Man, but it's the closet thing to Mega-Man I've played in a very long time. Yet it maintains it's own very unique art style and power systems that makes it its own. Out the gate in the first few minutes of the game I was like "hmmm IDK, is this game a little stiff?" Once I finished the tutorial level, I realized it wasn't. I've skipped a ton of the story scenes, but the moments I've paid attention, it's not bad. Especially as the story progresses. They let you skip pretty much every single story element if you want if you just wanna play the game. It won't effect your progress. I have no idea what these characters are supposed to be. V-Tubers? Fictional? I haven't paid attention. This game is so good all of those things are largely irrelevant. If you're into whatever these characters are supposed to be, even better. The sprite work done here is very good. All the characters look wildly different. Their illustrations in game are quality manga pieces. There's even a gallery to view all the art once unlocked (as well as a section of fan art that includes a decent amount of art and a few tame fan service images) Maybe some of the sections of some stages the art feel a little 'boxy' but it still works. Every stage has its own identity and design. If you want to replay a level, you don't have to fight the boss again. The boss fights get moved to their own room in the home base to solo them alone once you defeat them on the level. And you'll most likely want to replay the levels to find hidden rooms or stuff you couldn't find because you needed a specific power up first. Or maybe you just wanna play the stage for money to buy stuff. It doesn't feel like a chore. These devs have outdone what most pro studios do for their games. Sure it's indie, but it's quality across all elements of coding and design is something you rarely see from anyone.
This game is "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" incarnate. If you took everything great about the Mega Man Zero/ZX games but the main character and 8 bosses were Vtubers (non that I've heard of to be quite honest), you'd get this game. That can be a good or a bad thing depending on how much you love those specific, challenging Mega Man games. Sometimes it's a simple reference that leaves me saying "oh cute, I recognize that thing!" to other times things are more blatant leaving me asking "Did they not just trace over official game assets?" The story is pretty mid and tries its best to be philosophical, but again comes across as parroting the games that inspired this. Fortunately with the gameplay, they managed to copy/cover all the things that made those games play great. - Kana is straight up a Zero clone with the movement physics feeling as tight as the original. - Kana's EX-Moves don't require some bs to unlock like they did in the Zero games, allowing you to play her how you want - The summons mechanic is incredibly cool (probably the one of the few original things I liked from this game) - The most important thing to me in these type of games are the boss fights. Thankefully, they're all fun and challenging. However, the "Final Attack" they do can sometimes be a little much with the bullet hell spam. If you can get past how shameless this copy can get, there is a genuinely fun game to be played here.
Basically a Mega Man Zero/ZX based game, reskinned with anime girls and a femboy with good art and design. Some NPC's conversation respectfully reminds of good old games.
