Rise of the Cones: Planetary Defense

I had a lot of fun playing this one. It's great to mix and match tower types and find the best solution for different waves. Hopefully more levels are added down the road! A bit short to beat, but you can always try again with different combinations.

This is the best Tower Defense game I have played in many years. It takes a while to get into the game and learn and upgrade system. There are many options available, and there are many more to unlock as you play. I hope the developers release more Maps, and new Tower options to unlock.

PROS: I had zero crashes during my playthrough, and I’m currently on the final two maps for the level 60 challenges. Overall, I found the game entertaining. It’s certainly not amazing, its just..... OK. I’ll probably finish everything at around 7 hours of total playtime. For $10, getting roughly 7 hours of entertainment seems pretty reasonable to me. If that sounds worth it to you, grab it. CONS: Performance could be a serious problem if you have an older PC or lower-end hardware (compare to my specs). Based on how demanding things become later in the game, I could easily see anything above level 30 or so causing crashes or major issues. The other problem is that I didn’t actually find the game very challenging. That’s probably my biggest complaint, and it almost made me give the game a negative review. I don’t consider myself especially good at these types of games, or games in general, yet very little strategy was required to complete almost everything. Most of the game can be beaten with minimal planning or thought. There’s definitely some low-to-mid-level entertainment value here, although I can’t quite put my finger on what keeps me playing. Beyond that, there just isn’t much depth. I also wish there were more maps designed around simply being fun (there are only 5 maps with 3 wave modes 10, 20, 60). Like others have mentioned, most of the available maps seem built specifically to try and be a challenge rather than offering much experimentation. TLDR: I recommend it, if you just want several hours of simple, low-effort entertainment. Just don’t go into it expecting a particularly deep or difficult strategy game.
