Zomcats Invasion takes the familiar concept of surviving endless waves of zombies and transforms it into something considerably sillier by replacing the usual human survivors and undead with armed cats and grotesque feline monsters. Developed and published by Tinky, the game is a free-to-play 2D top-down shooter designed around quick action, escalating enemy waves, character progression, and cooperative multiplayer. Its premise is intentionally ridiculous, but beneath the humor is a recognizable survival formula that provides enough progression and variety to encourage repeated attempts. Every session revolves around surviving increasingly difficult waves of Zomcats. Defeating enemies rewards money that can be spent on weapons, ammunition, and access to additional areas. Barricades provide temporary protection and can be repaired to slow down attackers. These mechanics create a simple rhythm of fighting, earning resources, improving equipment, and preparing for whatever comes next. Early waves can feel relatively manageable, but the growing strength and numbers of enemies gradually turn the battlefield into a much more hectic environment. Combat benefits from having several types of Zomcats rather than relying exclusively on basic enemies with increasing health. Certain variants possess special abilities that make them more dangerous and encourage players to prioritize particular targets. Random mutator waves further disrupt the normal flow of a match by introducing temporary conditions that can either benefit the players or make survival more troublesome. This unpredictability gives repeated runs additional personality and prevents every match from following exactly the same progression. Cooperative multiplayer is arguably where the concept becomes most entertaining. The game supports online sessions with as many as ten players, allowing friends or strangers to fight the invasion together. A larger group can produce wonderfully chaotic encounters once the screen begins filling with enemies, gunfire, effects, and players scrambling to stay alive. Solo play remains available for anyone wanting a more controlled experience, but the straightforward mechanics and escalating waves are naturally well suited to cooperative play. Character progression gives players objectives beyond simply reaching a higher wave. Different classes can be selected, experience can be earned, and buffs can be unlocked over time. Multiple maps and difficulty options further expand the available combinations. None of these systems radically reinvent the genre, but together they provide enough structure to make progression satisfying. Players can experiment with different approaches instead of treating every attempt as an identical endurance challenge. Customization is another notable part of the package. Cosmetic items allow players to personalize their feline survivors, while Steam Workshop support opens the door to community-created cosmetics. Players can design items, share them through the Workshop, and vote on creations from other users. Particularly successful community designs can potentially find their way into the game's shop. It is a clever feature for a smaller indie project because it gives creative players another way to participate beyond simply chasing higher survival records. The visual presentation combines cute pixel-style cats with deliberately excessive zombie violence. Despite the adorable protagonists, combat can become surprisingly gruesome, featuring blood and exaggerated damage to the undead creatures. This contrast is clearly part of the joke and helps establish an identity that separates the game from more conventional zombie shooters. Players sensitive to gore or flashing visual effects should nevertheless be aware that both are part of the experience. There is a respectable selection of supporting Steam features as well. Achievements and statistics provide additional goals, while Steam Cloud makes progression more con…
