More of a mixed review than a negative one. The game isn't bad per se, just bit too grindy and unstructured for it to feel like a 'cozy' or 'relaxing' game. Also mildly annoyed by sea stacks that appears and disappears randomly as it causes awkward/weird angles to my island.
This is a decently enjoyable and cute idler and incremental game similar to "Garden Galaxy" and "Desktop Garden" (though more of the former). Unfortunately it's also less polished in a lot of ways, For better or worse, it's also a smaller time investment than similar games. Better, because a lot of these have annoying achievements/goals meant to pad time in-game, and it's really exasperating, and that's not here unless you want to complete all the entries, which I don't plan to do because looking up how to catch everything is just too irritating and catching enough fish for Chef Quackie and Shan Shan is exasperating. But worse because I just don't particularly feel the need to keep this on or return to it in the same way I wanted to with "Garden Galaxy", "Desktop Garden", and "Fish to Dish: Idle Sushi": the animation and mechanics aren't as enjoyable here. Though I appreciate that, unlike "Desktop Garden" and "Idle Sushi", this one is entirely secular. The art is generally quite cute, though I wish the trees were more interesting, and the graphics interfere with vision more than anything else. The boats the visitors get on often get stuck inside objects and just stay there, and often the visitors disappear from their boats, forever, until you presumably either reload or just build land over them, hiding them forever. Fish appear when you click trees to throw bait, which is before the bait lands. I did really appreciate the pumpkin houses, though. If you're looking at this for achievements, a lot of them are easier than they appear. For instance, with having residents move in, you only need to summon them once, you don't need to build homes for them/have them choose to stay permanently. You don't even need to build them a temporary home. For the build out to the edge achievement, I managed to get it by building a line of land all the way out to the edge, you don't have to fill the whole map. If you left click the fish, they'll go to the visitors they belong to, which is far easier than manually dragging them (as it's easy to drop them on the wrong person, which loses you friendship). Unfortunately the game also doesn't register when you've already maxxed someone. Perhaps this is fine from a gameplay sense where you just want to give your friends gifts, but there isn't any other benefit that I know of, so you're just potentially wasting rare fish because it's seemingly arbitrary on who gets the fish among those who like a specific fish and is present on the isle. If you want to focus on getting through things quickly, I would suggest focusing on fish-related trees. Getting the rare bait trees helped a lot with me getting my last visitors. My biggest criticism is that I didn't really understand what the different weather patterns were. Snow and night are obvious, but I wasn't sure what counted as sunny. And while I really like the look of the rainbow arrow sky fish, I wasn't sure if that was windy or some alternate version of sunny. It would also be nice to see what conditions you need for uncaught fish. I wasn't precisely expecting amazing music or sound effects, and the ones in this aren't bad, but similar games like "Desktop Garden" and "Fischer's Fishing Journey" in particular have very nice music, and are cheaper than this (and it's not many tracks of music; "Desktop Garden" has 3 tracks, and Fischer only has 1). Again, the music isn't bad, but it was so forgettable I was just playing videos in the background to listen to. Overall, if you want more of "Garden Galaxy", this probably gets the closest of the idlers I've tried, and that's fun. But "Garden Galaxy" is better.
