It's alright. Not the best of the series, but it is still really good. Really wish some of the ideas were fleshed out better, and some of that level design is hot garbage, but overall pretty alright. 7/10
The Legend of Dark Witch Episode 4 continues INSIDE SYSTEM’s established 2D action series with another colorful adventure built around fast platforming, magical attacks, character progression, and boss encounters. Developed and published by INSIDE SYSTEM, the game stays faithful to the identity that has defined the franchise rather than attempting to transform it into something completely different. Its combination of retro-inspired pixel graphics and modern progression mechanics gives it the feeling of a classic action platformer enhanced by systems that encourage players to explore stages, defeat enemies, and steadily strengthen the protagonist. The story once again follows Zizou, the Dark Witch, who becomes involved in a new crisis threatening the world. The central antagonist is Verde, a mysterious organization that intends to exploit magical interference to disrupt global communications and use the resulting chaos as part of its plan for domination. It is a suitably straightforward premise for a game primarily focused on action. Instead of overwhelming the player with lengthy narrative sequences, the conflict provides a clear motivation for Zizou's journey while preserving the energetic pacing expected from a stage-based platformer. Gameplay revolves around guiding Zizou through side-scrolling environments filled with enemies, hazards, hidden objectives, and eventually powerful bosses. Combat plays an especially important role because defeating ordinary opponents provides Tres, a resource that can be used to improve Zizou's capabilities. This gives routine battles greater significance. Enemies are not simply obstacles placed between the player and the end of a level, since engaging with them contributes toward character development and makes Zizou progressively stronger. The resulting progression system adds a rewarding sense of growth without turning the game into an excessively complicated role-playing experience. Exploration receives additional importance through the presence of Jammers hidden throughout the stages. Players are encouraged to locate and eliminate these special enemies while progressing toward each boss room. Their inclusion gives the level layouts an additional purpose beyond moving from the beginning to the end as quickly as possible. Searching for Jammers encourages closer examination of the environments and makes learning the structure of each stage more rewarding. Players interested in thorough completion have a reason to investigate areas that might otherwise be ignored, while those concentrating primarily on action can still enjoy the fundamental platforming and combat. Boss battles represent another major component of the progression system. Defeating these powerful opponents rewards Zizou with new magic, expanding her available abilities as the adventure continues. This establishes an effective cycle in which players fight enemies to gather resources, explore stages for hidden targets, challenge bosses, and obtain additional powers that can influence later encounters. Acquiring magic after major victories provides a tangible sense of advancement and ensures that defeating a boss feels meaningful beyond simply unlocking access to another level. The structure draws obvious inspiration from traditional 2D action games, but The Legend of Dark Witch Episode 4 develops its own personality through its magical setting and charming cast. The controls and stage design are intended to place mechanical execution at the center of the experience. Learning enemy behavior, responding to hazards, positioning Zizou correctly, and understanding boss attack patterns are all important parts of succeeding. Players who enjoy improving through familiarity with a level should find considerable satisfaction in replaying difficult sections and gradually becoming more efficient. Visually, the game proudly embraces pixel art. Character sprites are colorful and expressive, while the fantasy theme allows the environm…
I enjoy the game, but i feel it does not line up with the other games in the series with the removal of the install system and other things that made the series in DW1 and DW2
