Space Will

tldr: This is a survivor game with the magic sauce at a good price, buy it. The is a top-down survivor genre game. You clear stages and use currency to 'level up' your ship with new weapons or chips, hoping to outscale the enemies in the next level. The goal is to survive the 20th level (survive, you don't need to kill the boss). Meta progress is about unlocking new stuff, not buffing yourself in between runs. The three main skills are controlling the ship, choosing the right upgrades, and knowing how the levels/bosses work. There is enough player skill in the piloting that a good player can benefit, but there is also enough skill in the upgrade path that you don't need to be great at flying. The game has 6 galaxies, essentially the difficulty of the run. Each run has 20 levels then an endless mode. Since not all ships are equally good, it is fun to clear on easier galaxies (or in a more advanced sense, galaxies that have bosses favorable to your build). This is one of the good ones in the genre and it is cheap. I felt motivated to continue trying the new ship cores as they encourage or pretty much enforce different strategies, so you don't have the classic same builds every run. Some of them were very difficult, some very easy, but I never felt they were impossible. English translation is not perfect, but I could understand most things. Certainly enough to play through the game. The developer has a few other games, but I think this is the best one. The expansion adds more content, I recommend it if you like the base game. It's simply more of it.

Its actually pretty fun building some weird ships with insane fire power, if you get it right the bosses melt in your hand...well, lasers.

Cross between vampire survivor and shooting games. You choose one of many cores and try to kill as many enemies as you can so you have more currency for upgrades between waves. The game has a solid loop. Like FTL, you are encouraged to try different builds to unlock different cores for your next run. The game supports many play styles and people who like to make their own builds will enjoy the game.
