Pocket Bravery

I like the idea of this game, but its so thoroughly scuffed in multiple ways that it is unfun. In other fighting games, I can tell when I do something wrong, but its difficult here. The story mode tutorials are more aggravating than enlightening as it will force you to restart sections that you've nailed down just for you to lose at the section you struggle with before forcing you to restart. It's a shame because I was hooked to the story and wanted to learn more, but bashing my head against it was not fun at all. Otherwise, this game is a triumph that i will regretfully not finish.

Maybe this style of game isn't for me but I found it extremely shi ttay. I grew up playing MK and Tekken and killer instinct fighting games so I don't have much experience with KOF fighting games. Rather than special moves and intuitive combos this game uses like 20 extra systems of breakers and match specific things to use based on multiple different meters and triggers at only certain times of the matches. Most of the special moves require extensive multiple arrow moves in a row and you're supposed to chain them together. The problem with this is this game has the worst input recognition i've ever had in a fighting game. I would try a move 15 times and it would only recognize the correct input 1 of those times. Forget trying to chain multiple multi-arrow attacks back to back in sequence. I see other complaints about the inputs in the reviews so it's not just me and I've played a decent amount of fighting games over my lifetime and never had this issue. Other problems, the story is some random chibi trash dialogue boxes that take 10 min from fight to fight and you have to slowly skip through. During fights you have to constantly do new techniques in a glorified training/tutorial system, even when I was 1/2 through the entire game. The fights are very specific gimmick fights where you can only use 1 specific move etc. I finally gave up on this one fight where I had to use some come from behind special move when at a specific amount of health and with specific meters filled a certain amount. That I was thankfully able to skip but then I got to this part where I did no damage to this guy besides using elemental attacks, and even with that I still did very low damage. The computer even on mid-lower levels constantly attacks and chain combos you, and the blocking sucks, as you can't block to interrupt damage even when there's breaks, its got to be the worst blocking system I've ever seen. I couldn't skip the tutorial-esque fight and this guy did major damage to me and I could barely hurt him for some reason, but when you fail the fight you need to go back to earlier fight and do a bunch of random finnicky inputs there as well to get back to the later fight and fail all over. The checkpoints in the game are awful. So due to the awful input reading, lame story mode that takes forever between fights, the gimmicky tutorial style fights, many of which you can't skip, and the poor checkpointing, as well as dumb combo and special move system, I gave this one up. Tried multiplayer and never was able to find a game. 4/10.
