Nancy Drew®: The Shattered Medallion

warning : contains spoilers ! ! ! nancy drew : the shattered medallion was pretty good . i've played this before like many other nancy drew games , but im just now replaying all of them . this was a fan favorite of mine but it has slid from best to reslly good / okay . some of the puzzles were pretty okay but the capsule coin filling race against time with kiri was the absolute worst one for me , the 5th level was pretty hard and it took me at least 20 tries . whoever made that puzzle , please , remake it , because it makes me not want to play the game again . i enjoyed the submarine - diving , and the scene where nancy nearly got hit by a boulder and found the 4th / 5th piece ? was really fun for me . i think that the lore about sonny / seoung's grandfather could've had a better storyline than the stars and all that . more locations would ' ve been cool , and also what ' s the point of having a phone to call numbers with if we dont get any numbers ( besides george ' s and bess ' ) for the entire game ? ! this is a classic for me , some parts are hard and / or boring but most of it was okay ! : ) 4.4 stars

This game was as others have said... just meh. I was hopeful at the beginning because I love the New Zealand setting and the added pressure/competition of the game show, however the flow of the game quickly becomes unhinged, and feels slow and out of order. I can't believe Nancy and Sonny never even have a conversation about all the same places they've been, and their meeting was definitely lackluster. The theme needed stome streamlining, too. Jumping from waterfalls and kayaking, to ancient relics and the Annunaki, to sheep shearing and panning for gold, it was like "pick a lane, game!" The ending was very uneventful. A couple neat characters but idk just could have been so much better.

I am apparently in the minority, but I actually really enjoyed this game. As a long time enjoyer of the series, I can see where people get that they miss the standard formula to the ND games, but I don't think this was a bad or far fetched deviation. There was enough mystery to keep me involved. Sure some of the characters weren't as fleshed out as they are in other games, but I found them colorful enough not to lose my interest. It was nice to finally put a face to the infamous Sonny Joon. Give it a chance for yourself instead of blindly listening to the reviews. Especially if you love the series.
