Overall: 7/10 Story: There's no narrative here. Like, at all. There's of course a campaign/career mode, but I mean there's no real storytelling being done while playing, as the story is essentially the career you create through your own race results. I usually don't even mind more limited narratives within racing games since that's not the main selling point very often anyway, but the career mode here is unfortunately pretty bare-bones even if you don't care about a story. You start at the bottom, develop your skills, work your way through 3 different tiers of championships, overcome increasingly difficult competition, and eventually aim to become champion. That core premise could theoretically works as a "Zero-to-Hero" kind of vibe, but you never really get that feeling from the foundation of the "narrative" or even the gameplay because this game doesn't do enough to make that progression feel like an actual journey. Your custom-made rider has no real characterization, so while you're create an avatar and work your way up the ranks, there's no real sense of who this person is, what motivates them, or what becoming a professional racer actually means to them. I think Jeremy McGrath's mentorship is another missed opportunity, since having a supposed legendary rider guide a fresh rookie through his career is an interesting narrative hook, but the gameplay doesn't do much to establish a meaningful relationship or make his presence feel significant beyond the role of a dude who stands around and gives you monotonous challenges in the Supercross park. And the same goes for your rivals. Competing against the same group of riders throughout a championship could naturally create some compelling rivalries, but simply having opponents to beat doesn't automatically give those matchups any emotional weight. The "rivalries" really just amount to who preformed better on a race-by-race basis and the only thing that makes your "rivals" notable is that their marker on the mini-map is orange. So honestly, I think all this ultimately accumulates to what's the biggest issue with the career mode: advancing through leagues and improving your rider definitely gives you objectives to work toward, but moving up a class is progression on paper, not necessarily a meaningful or rewarding milestone. There's basically nothing in the way of cutscenes, character interactions, or developments between races to make the season feel like a continuous experience rather than a collection of random races in stadiums across the US. Gameplay: I'm not a huge motocross fan and I haven't played an MX style game (or a motorcycle game in general, to be honest) since the PS2 days, so the physics and controls took some getting used to for me. However, after about 18 hours of playtime, my take is that this game is definitely fun, but it also feels like it's fighting itself half the time. For starters, I know I'm late to the party (and I'll admit it took some getting used to), but I think the analog controls of using the left stick to steer your bike and the right stick to control the rider's weight distribution is genuinely a really cool control scheme. However, those same controls combined with a generally unintuitive physics system are part of why I say the gameplay feels very awkward at times. As a new player, I wasn't just learning what each stick does; I was learning when to combine their inputs, how much to apply, and when to release them. It takes a while to get used to controls like that in the first place, but when the underlying physics system it's tied to feels unpolished, it makes it hard to learn from your mistakes because there are times where you don't know if you messed up or if the game actually did. And that's why aspects like physics are critical. You don't have to be a longtime player to realize that, in a convincing simulation racing game, you should be able to recognize when you're entering a corner too quickly, leaning too aggressively, misjudgi…
Stop thinking about Supercross 25, if you want a modern Supercross game which feels decent this is the one. After a full Season with both 250 and 450 bikes in Career mode here are my thoughts: +Career mode additions, Training and Supercross Academy with the voice of Jeremy McGrath. +Bike and Rider feel heavier and less "jumpy" compared to SX3 (which is the Peak job of Milestone) +Controller scheme and Vibrations are on point. +Whips and Scrubs are decent but they are still animation based and not free. +Track list. +Detailed bikes and sponshorships. +Accessibility and Assists +Bike audio So now the negative: -Physics are not the best and if you are not a smooth rider the bike will feel like a boat sometimes. -A.I crashes makes their bike literally fly in some maps and obviously can hit you. -MUSIC sucks. Why the F, we don't have a banging licensed soundtrack playing! -Character editor. Really basic and impossible to make a proper face. -A.I falls behind and its not competitive in some tracks. -Repetitive Career mode. (No CGI or real life videos playing, its mostly quick races with the addition of SX Park. -Forget about online, nobody plays it. -Graphics could be better. -FOV is really narrow but you can fix it with mods -Stiff animations, rider doesn't feel natural when he is standing or taking corners. To be honest SX6 is the 2nd best game in the series after Supercross 3. And i got into it because of Supercross 25 being such a bad experience with their inverted control scheme which unfortunately is tied to physics.
