ミッドナイトシンドローム (Midnight Syndrome) — бесплатная хоррор-адвенчура на RPG Maker MV: старшеклассница Понзу и её подруги ночью в школе вызывают духа через «Коккури-сан» — японский аналог доски уджи. После этого в их тихом приморском городке Камигай-тё начинаются паранормальные явления. Геймплей — исследование зловещих локаций, поиск подсказок, решение головоломок и выборы, ведущие к нескольким концовкам. Время прохождения — около 4 часов. Плюсы: плотная тревожная атмосфера — ночная школа, пиксельная графика и звук отлично работают вместе, нагнетая настоящую жуть без дешёвых скримеров; мультиэндовки и вариативность — решения игрока реально влияют на судьбу героинь, что мотивирует переигрывать. Минусы: язык только японский — без знания языка сюжет и головоломки остаются непроходимым барьером; местами медленный темп — долгие отрезки ходьбы и разговоров между напряжёнными моментами могут утомить. Итог: крепкая, атмосферная и бесплатная хоррор-история о девочках, заигравшихся с духами — отличная находка для любителей японского инди-хоррора и пиксельной эстетики, если читаете по-японски.

Игра Midnight Syndrome погружает в атмосферу настоящего японского хоррора, где каждый шорох и тень могут таить смертельную угрозу. Визуальный стиль игры, вдохновленный классическими фильмами ужасов, создает гнетущее ощущение, а напряженный саундтрек заставляет сердце биться чаще. Управление персонажем порой кажется немного неуклюжим, что добавляет реализма и усиливает чувство беспомощности перед лицом неведомого. Сюжет, полный тайн и неожиданных поворотов, держит в напряжении до самого конца, заставляя разгадывать загадки и искать пути к спасению. Рекомендуется всем любителям жанра, готовым к погружению в мир, где опасность поджидает за каждым углом.

RPG Maker strikes again! "Midnight Syndrome" is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. Notably, the "developer" couldn't work out how to use RPG Maker to make a JRPG (the only thing it can do, and it's terrible at it). Instead, we have a godawfully bad horror adventure visual novel about the "developers" favourite subject, his imaginary girlfriends, who are also high school students. Creepy and cringey at the same time. There's a background high-school horror plot for the e-book, and you need to move around a bit in RPG Maker to get to the next passage of text that's so cringey and badly written it might make you throw up a bit. As with all RPG Maker games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer. The point can be made that the intention of RPG Maker is to make demos and small games to pass around friends, and shouldn't be used for "professional" game development. Like most RPG Maker shovelware and asset flips, the game features extremely low quality copy + pasted 2D retro pixel art, looks awful, and has even worse gameplay. RPG Maker is an absolutely terrible construction kit, and never results in games of any reasonable quality or value to gamers. There's no English translation for the this, but that's okay. The language of bad products is universal. So, it's hard to describe this as a game, the focus of the product is more like that of an e-book/visual novel, there's only minor, shallow and uninteresting gameplay elements. The crux of this is to push some very low quality, badly done fan-fiction tier writing, where we see once more a developer fail to understand the importance of "Show, don't tell", and for whatever reason, weren't able to convey their narrative through gameplay, giving us endless lines of badly written e-book text instead. My gaming rig is not a kindle. On pricing, this is "free" enough, at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 11 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. While this didn't cost me any money up front, I still feel ripped off.
