Irotoridori No Sekai HD - The Colorful World

As a quick disclaimer, I received this visual novel for free courtesy of NekoNyan's Discord key giveaway a while ago, so I appreciate the publishing team (who, by the way, did a great job on localizing the game for an English-speaking audience). With that out of the way, the main reason I really liked Irotoridori no Sekai is the feather imagery and the blue sky. It drops you into a world that seems normal at first, but you're a person who possesses the ability to heal others. You lose your memories as a caveat in the process, so a regular school life is out of the question. It seems quite interesting how Yuuma can only see Shinku, who appears before him as an angel and knows more about the secrets to his powers and own childhood memories. Outside of the plot itself, the updated visuals are really stunning and crisp. The developer studio Favorite has a really unique art style that is vibrant and saturated. It's definitely worth picking up if you've ever tried their earlier work "Hoshizora no Memoria -Wish Upon a Shooting Star-." I also recommend getting this if you're heavily invested in nakige, like I am. I'm sure once I play more of the game, I'll start getting emotionally attached to the heroines and catching the feels. But, these are just my first impressions for a visual novel I had huge expectations for.

The Colorful World is an absolutely phenomenal experience. Wonderful character art. 10/10 writing overall. I cried probably at least once every hour, either from how sweet something was, or how dramatic. Incredibly introspective and thoughtful piece with a really profound conceit with themes regarding the importance of reading and the real world importance of fiction itself. While it can be hard to follow at times due to how metaphysical it gets, the story makes sure to really re-enforce its points so you're following along. The TL is very competent which is very important for a work like this. Kana and Shinku all have some of the best routes ever in VNs; Mio's is decent, Kyou and Tsukasa both have less interesting routes but they're shorter and still have some moments. The setting has a similar feel to Masaaki Yuasa's works. The music is a bit too chill/in the background, and there are annoying meta VN jokes, otherwise, pretty flawless experience.
