Hotel R’n’R, developed and published by Wolf & Wood Interactive Ltd, is a VR experience that builds its entire identity around destruction, excess, and a deliberately absurd rock-and-roll fantasy. Instead of presenting a traditional narrative-driven adventure, it drops players into a surreal scenario where smashing hotel rooms becomes both a profession and a path to redemption. The premise is intentionally ridiculous, but it works because the game fully commits to it, blending humor, chaos, and a surprising amount of structure into a cohesive and entertaining loop. The gameplay is centered on short, high-intensity sessions where players enter hotel rooms with a single objective: cause as much damage as possible before time runs out. Nearly everything in the environment can be interacted with, picked up, thrown, or destroyed, creating a playground of reactive objects that encourages experimentation. The physicality of these interactions is where the game truly shines, especially in VR, where the act of grabbing a chair and hurling it across the room or smashing glass with your hands feels immediate and satisfying. This tactile engagement transforms what could have been a simple gimmick into a genuinely compelling core mechanic. While the concept might initially seem like pure chaos, the game gradually reveals a layer of strategy beneath its destructive surface. Players must consider how to maximize damage efficiently, choosing which objects to target and how to chain actions together for greater impact. Timing becomes crucial, as lingering too long invites intervention from hotel staff who attempt to stop the rampage. These interruptions add tension and force players to balance aggression with awareness, turning each session into a dynamic challenge rather than a mindless spree. The need to plan, adapt, and execute quickly gives the gameplay a sense of purpose that elevates it beyond simple novelty. Progression is handled through a system that rewards destruction with currency, which can then be spent on new tools and upgrades. As players advance, they gain access to increasingly creative and destructive equipment, ranging from basic blunt objects to more elaborate and chaotic implements. These additions expand the possibilities for how each level can be approached, encouraging players to experiment with different strategies and combinations. However, the pacing of these unlocks can feel somewhat uneven, occasionally requiring repeated runs before meaningful upgrades become available, which may test the patience of some players. The structure of the game follows a consistent loop—enter, destroy, escape, upgrade—which is effective in short bursts but can begin to feel repetitive over longer play sessions. Although later levels introduce more complex environments and additional obstacles, the fundamental objective remains largely unchanged. The game relies heavily on the player’s creativity and willingness to engage with its systems to maintain interest, which means its longevity varies depending on how much enjoyment one finds in improvisation and experimentation. Visually, Hotel R’n’R adopts a stylized but grounded presentation that supports its focus on interaction. The environments are detailed enough to make destruction feel impactful, with objects breaking apart in satisfying ways that reinforce the game’s central appeal. The physics system is the true highlight, consistently delivering believable and entertaining reactions to player actions. In VR, this is particularly effective, as the sense of presence enhances the impact of every thrown object and shattered surface. Minor technical inconsistencies can occasionally appear, but they rarely detract from the overall experience. What ultimately defines Hotel R’n’R is its commitment to a singular idea: turning destruction into a structured, engaging form of play. It does not attempt to offer deep storytelling or complex systems, instead focusing on delivering a polis…
