Everglow is a narrative-driven science-fiction visual novel that combines anthropomorphic characters, political intrigue, mystery, and branching decisions within a relatively compact adventure. Developed and published by 7CoreLoops, it centers on Glow, a young fox whose life initially seems remarkably ordinary. She spends her days working at a research institute and returns home to a quiet routine, with her cherished cactus providing an amusing indication of just how uneventful her existence has become. That simplicity is intentional, creating a strong contrast with the increasingly dangerous circumstances that eventually pull her into a much larger conflict. The setting is shaped by longstanding tension between the Wolf and Fox empires. Their troubled relationship stems from a mysterious incident that occurred a decade earlier, leaving distrust and political hostility in its wake. Glow initially has little reason to involve herself in these affairs, but the comfortable distance between her personal life and the wider political situation does not last. As she becomes entangled in the mystery, she must confront secrets that connect the past with the present and determine how she will respond to a conspiracy extending far beyond her normal responsibilities. Glow works well as a protagonist precisely because she is not introduced as an experienced adventurer or heroic figure. Her mundane background gives the player an approachable perspective from which to discover the setting. Watching an ordinary character encounter increasingly extraordinary circumstances provides much of the story's appeal. Her personality also introduces humor into a premise that could otherwise become excessively serious. The game is therefore able to move between quirky everyday moments and more consequential discussions about political conflict, hidden motives, and personal responsibility. Player choice gives the narrative additional significance. Everglow contains five endings, making individual decisions more meaningful while encouraging additional playthroughs. The branching structure provides opportunities to approach important situations differently and discover alternative consequences. Instead of measuring progress through combat statistics or character upgrades, the game makes decisions and narrative outcomes its primary form of interaction. Players interested in seeing every conclusion will consequently get considerably more value from the experience than those satisfied with completing a single route. The hand-drawn 2D presentation complements the visual-novel format effectively. Character artwork carries much of the personality, while the anthropomorphic science-fiction setting gives the game a recognizable visual identity. It does not depend on elaborate animation or cinematic production to communicate its ideas. Dialogue, character expressions, illustrations, and environmental presentation do most of the work. This relatively straightforward approach fits an independent visual novel where storytelling and character interaction matter considerably more than technical spectacle. Its tone deserves particular mention because Everglow is not entirely as lighthearted as its colorful characters might suggest. The story contains mature elements involving alcohol, mental-health-related subjects, and a brief depiction of covered nudity. These aspects contribute to the narrative rather than turning the game into something primarily focused on explicit material. The broader atmosphere remains centered on mystery and science-fiction intrigue, with humorous character moments preventing the heavier material from dominating every scene. Gameplay is naturally limited compared with more mechanically intensive genres. Most of the player's time is spent reading, following conversations, learning about the world, and making choices. Anyone expecting exploration, combat, elaborate puzzles, or deep character progression should adjust expectations according…
Edited review The Annoying Achievement was removed so all is well! Aside from the fact I still don't love the game, but you can't win them all. I liked the plot well enough, but everything goes way too fast (a journey will take 2mn to read but is treated as this long and terrible ordeal, a character is Incredibly Important to Glow and I barely remember her talking, etc. Also not nearly enough transitions between scenes). The art is good but I hate the "fearful" sprite (so overexaggerated for situations that rarely justify it). The story was enough to keep me interested, but the execution was really rushed, the writing flat (again, because it's given no time). I also got confused by who and when we were exactly at some points but that doesn't bother me personally, I trust Glow's feelings and the general objective of the moment. Might bother other people. Not sure if it's the game's fault or mine though - maybe the lack of transitions confused everything, maybe I'm just not cut for time-travel, who knows? I still love the cactus, may he keep standing.
The game is okay but closer to mediocre because of the choices overall not making a huge difference. Could have been great with some minor changes. The issue came with one of the achievements. I seriously needed to have my partner in IT complete that task and I very much appreciated his help. I could not have done it alone as it takes knowledge and use of python and how to find/decode lines of text. From someone who strives to complete a game so that I can fully get all the game has to offer, I should not need a background in computers to get it completed. What you (the developer did as by research a joke) made it to where I could not recommend the game at all. Games are meant to be fun and not frustrating and that is exactly what you did. I will say that it is short but mine logged more time waiting for him to come over and finish the final achievement. Strive to remember when making a game that it is great if it is challenging but off the mark when an average person cannot possibly get all the achievements without further education. Games are meant to be enjoyed and that should be the goal as the developer. Try again. You do have the base knowledge to make a game that could be a winner.
