Eden's Eclipse

Another excellent game from XX Gameroom, but I do find this game to be TREMENDOULSY DIFFICULT on a factor of 2x harder than BLUE WISH DESIRE. After spending over 4 hours playing I still have not been able to get past stage 2 on easiest settings with either character. Just the 2nd stage of this game is as hard as the final level of most SHMUPs. I completely no-missed the entirety of stage 2, then completely NO-MISSED the entire first stage of the boss, only to end up spending a guard, two bombs, three hypers AND STILL DIE BEFORE THE BOSS IS HALF DONE. That was the "easy mode." C'mon man. One character has homing shots, which is essentially the only way to get anywhere past level one. Character two, though more powered has a narrow shot that doesn't help much against the overwhelming non-stop barrage of endless enemies & tanky mid bosses present even on the easiest setting. I feel this game needs to be better balanced in order to be in-line with BLUE WISH. I am completely willing to pay for an update with better balance.

Eden's Eclipse is the latest game developed by acclaimed indie shmup dev X.X. It is the latest entry in the Eden's series of games with the previous one - Eden's Aegis - releasing in 2010. What an insane gap between releases, eh? Overall this is a great game but it has a handful of issues that will hopefully get patched down the line. Issues with game: 1) No Heaven (easy) mode. The easiest difficulty available is Classic mode which is pretty rough and will likely alienate casuals. This choice is extra strange since Eden's Aegis has a Heaven mode and that game released in 2010. 2) No auto-bomb. This feature also existed in Eden's Aegis. 3) Using bombs feels slightly delayed. 4) Switching between spread and focus shot feels slightly delayed. 5) Guard takes too long to charge. For approximately the first 3/4 of stage 1 if you take a single hit you'll lose a life which is kind of annoying. Most shmups have some kind of a safety net in place to prevent this from happening. 6) Currently there is a bug that causes the stage 1 and 4 boss music to not play if you adjust the BGM volume. By default the BGM is too low compared to the SFX. 7) Button used to select options from Save Replay menu is different from other menus. Seems like a dev oversight. To leave this on a positive note, this developer deserves your support if you enjoy Cave games. Also,, would highly recommend checking out X.X Gameroom on itch.io to download most of their previous releases (including Eden's Aegis) for free. They make great stuff.
