So okay, it's all around "not bad". Tip number 1 - if you want traditional mouselook set the "mouse input sensitivity" all the way to 10 and disable auto aim - now the game feels correct. I can't imagine why this isn't the default or in any world anyone whose ever played any kind of shooter wouldn't want it this way. It should be the default but it will make playing with M+K feel correct. The game itself is fun enough. I think it's obvious this is kind of the "family friendly" EDF not that the mainline series were particularly grotesque. That said, the "lego movie" vibes of the game are pretty hit or miss. Some of the characters are annoying and their shtick really outlives its welcome. A few lines did get a brief chortle out of me, and there's some callback jokes to the mainline series that I at least appreciate being there. On to the game itself. So unlike EDF where you're focused on collecting boxes to get armor and weapons you're basically trying to unlock different characters - called brothers and sisters. You just gain XP on the weapon they have equipped and it give sit more damage, and each char just gains seemingly a set amount of armor for completing a mission. You can equip two equipment's to each character - and any weapon they have the skills to use. This gets a bit confusing. So when you find a character in the map if they are duplicates to one you have unlocked they gain a level and can then use a new weapon type. So for example the ranger can equip rifles by default. Maybe finding another one lets him equip rocket type weapons. The thing here is the character gets a 20% damage bonus for using the weapon they came with so unless there are some incredible weapons later (not that far) it seems like you'll just be keeping their default weapon for a long time. This makes upgrading them not that exciting cause it seems a bit pointless. Then there's equipment, each char can equip 2 pieces of equipment (once you unlock it you can just re-use it at will for free on any number of chars simultaneously) but certain characters have better equipment combos than others so they seem just flat out superior. In a lot of cases there's several versions of the same character. So like Ranger from EDF 5 might have 3 versions (which count as different chars) and one might just have a better equipment combo being the only difference. This strikes me somewhat as padding to be honest but it's not the worst thing. In theory your team composition is the heart of the game, but the downside here is once you get a team you're kind of rolling with there's not too much incentive to actually swap them out unless you just feel like trying or leveling up someone else. Some characters seem very good in general, most are pretty mid-range, a few feel awful. But broadly I feel like, at least on Normal difficulty, the game is extremely easy. You can just use the first guy and the first wing diver you unlock (scripted in the first level), upgrade their equipment every so often, and you'll be pretty fine. Then use the other two slots to have an AOE guy and a long range or maybe single target char and you'll be good to go. I feel like the game has to be easy so you can have all these wacky characters feel not completely useless. On Hard difficulty, at least early with low armor, there are some missions where you might actually get a teammate downed so it might be worth it for series vets to just start on hard and try that out if you're looking for more challenge. Even then a lot of missions will still feel easy but perhaps just a bit tedious to chew through the higher enemy HP. At the end of the day it's kind of just a silly game to waste some time in. I can't see myself getting obsessive about leveling up the characters or chasing all unlocks - but it's reasonable enough family friendly entertainment. Kids won't get too frustrated with it on normal difficulty. It doesn't replace the mainline series for me but there's not really many truly…
This is EDF 6 if you lego movied it. The good and bad of that are on display here. If you don't know what EDF is, its a game where you have a few different classes with varied gameplay that is arcadey and you fight giant hordes of enemies and just kinda embrace the chaos. Its very arcadey and feels a bit like a twitchy arcade game with campy dialogue. The legoification of this game means, the combat is greatly simplified and the progression and mechanics are simplified. Unlike World brothers 1 where this simplification was a bit too much to retain the fun and chaos of EDF, here it simplified enough for younger children but has enough nuance and complexity to remain interesting for older players. The humor is also much more in line with kids sensibilities as well. The characters talk and make quips and the campy jokes are more along the lines of making fun of characters for sleeping with stuffed animals rather than the campy movie lines and bad voice acting of the mainline EDF games. Overall, I still find it fun and its more accessible for children so I think if you have a younger child that you'd like to play EDF with, its a good candidate.
Its probably the best blocky-game I've ever played. I wish the AI was a better though, like I wish they wouldn't hop on your vehicle with you. its surprisingly a lot more chaotic when you're swapping between 4 characters. The buildings...surprisingly take good punishment. Sometimes it'll leave holes in the buildings. I'd imagine thats what it'd feel like trying to take apart actual nano blocks too. Cons that I had... - The navigators talk too much, Yeah i know I can swap characters, you dont have to keep reminding me. - no vehicle summons. I can't call something like a NIX unless it's on a certain map. - sometimes you get stuck in mech vehicles. Pretty hard to wiggle out of. - You can't micromanage your team mates. You have 3 guys following you, but you can't leave them in 1 spot and leave. it has a recall button at least. Even though its blocky, its actually the best looking EDF Game I've seen...But only if you're flying. The explosions and junk might clutter your field of view. More complaints that I have with the game after finishing.... July 8, 2026 - I wish the story characters you got had names on them. Like if you got Slugger Sister, it isn't automatically renamed as "Jackie" or something. - The game is in fact localized, its to the point where I'm pretty sure Jackie does have different dialogue in comparison to the Japanese dub. I'm also pretty sure Fyta isn't his actual name, because I never heard Fyta mentioned once. - For a rated T game, the characters sure do swear a bit more often then I expected. - You and your allys need more stuff to say, either that, or they just talk too much durring fights. - If you rescue a character, they don't keep your gear if you already rescued that character previously.
