DragonRoad is an ambitious and earnest open-world action RPG developed and published by DragonRoad that wears its scope and passion openly. From the outset, it positions itself as a large-scale journey rather than a tightly scripted experience, placing players into a mythic historical setting shaped by the long conflict between humanity, dragons, and other ancient forces. The game’s world is built around the idea of endurance and philosophical growth, drawing inspiration from Eastern thought and framing the player’s progression as both a physical and spiritual ascent. This thematic ambition gives DragonRoad a tone that feels reflective and weighty, setting it apart from more straightforward fantasy action titles. The world itself is expansive and intentionally paced, encouraging exploration across varied regions that include rugged wilderness, ancient settlements, and hostile battlefields scarred by past wars. Rather than overwhelming players with constant spectacle, DragonRoad often opts for quieter stretches that emphasize scale and isolation, reinforcing the feeling of traveling through a land shaped by centuries of conflict. Environmental storytelling plays a major role, with ruins, enemy placements, and mission objectives subtly hinting at the world’s history. While the map can initially feel sparse, this sense of openness becomes more rewarding over time as systems unlock and the player gains a clearer understanding of how exploration, survival, and progression intertwine. Combat in DragonRoad leans toward deliberate, tactical engagements rather than fast, arcade-style action. Players must manage positioning, timing, and resource use carefully, especially when facing stronger enemies or groups that punish reckless aggression. Character growth is tied closely to combat proficiency, with experience, gear, and skill upgrades steadily expanding a player’s capabilities. The game also integrates survival mechanics such as hunting, fishing, crafting fires, and managing travel, which adds a layer of realism and preparation to each journey. These elements slow the overall pace in a way that may not appeal to everyone, but for players who enjoy methodical progression and a sense of earned advancement, the systems reinforce the game’s core identity. One of DragonRoad’s notable strengths is its emphasis on player choice through character selection and cooperative play. With multiple playable characters offering different strengths and combat styles, the game encourages experimentation and replayability. This variety becomes even more engaging in multiplayer, where up to four players can tackle missions together. Cooperative play shifts the experience significantly, transforming solitary survival into a more dynamic, strategic endeavor where roles, coordination, and shared decision-making matter. The multiplayer component does not simply feel tacked on, but instead complements the game’s slower, tactical approach by allowing players to support one another through challenging encounters. Visually, DragonRoad aims high for an indie project, presenting large landscapes, dynamic lighting, and environmental detail that enhances immersion. While not flawless, the art direction successfully conveys a sense of ancient grandeur and lingering danger. Performance and polish can vary depending on system hardware, and occasional technical roughness reminds players of the game’s independent origins. However, consistent updates and patches demonstrate the developer’s commitment to improving stability, balance, and overall presentation, which helps build confidence in the game’s long-term potential. Narratively, DragonRoad unfolds gradually, often prioritizing atmosphere and thematic resonance over constant exposition. Its story explores ideas of unity, inner strength, and survival in the face of overwhelming odds, allowing players to piece together meaning through gameplay rather than lengthy cutscenes. This subtle storytelling approach may…

Full discolosure: I received this game for free to test it. 1st playthrough: Alt+F4 after a few seconds. 2nd playthrough: Installed the game AGAIN, to "play it" for 5min to be allowed to write a review. Uninstalled after a few minutes. Honestly? I'm upset. Why do we have such games in 2026? Calling it unfinished isn't fair. It shouldn't be finished. This is the moment when you go back to the drawing board to start again. The game seems like a Chinese production. They are attempting a Chinese theme. Why not? But this project clearly lacks "vision". Making a game isn't putting some nerds behind computers and to make them produce something in 3d with Unreal Engine. This looks like the work with someone with no gaming culture. - Controls: Terrible. Your character can jump, swim and all. But it feels BAD. - Enemies: Met a single enemy in the few minutes I wasted on this game, and it was a chicken. Ask yourself a question: How many round house kicks it takes to kill a chicken? Don't answer me. Rhetorical. - Lots of features, like mining, smelting, forging etc... Like the game had a marketing guy adding a list of things to put into the game. - Dragon flying: Didn't reach that part yet. Some players must have known Drakan in 1999. It was cool to fly around the world on a dragon. I was expecting that at some point. But I gave up way too early. + Some positive. You can push a button to spawn an NPC acting as "the god of lands" and you can whoop his b***. Which is cool. Still terrible. Imagine having a kid. And while you are entertaining guests in the living room, he brings you his pink plastic potty pot with a nice t**d in it. All proud. When the kid is 3years old? It's okay. You take the potty pot out of there and beg your guests' understanding as you are potty training you child and that it is a big step. But when your kid is 29year old... Feels bad. So now that I provided some context: Here is my question: Why are they showing us this? I'm extremely disappointed. Was it made by a 3year old? In this case, it's awesome. Amazing. But if it was made by an adult thinking that it deserves our time in its current state? Well... I'm very upset.

Exploration game, Souls-style, sandbox, RPG. Based on the fantasy genre, it draws inspiration from the West, but with Eastern (Chinese) culture. We play as Long Yun, who lives in the kingdom of the Five Dynasties and is known for completing many quests. Our task is to fight the evil that has suddenly appeared: a demonic horde has appeared on earth; ghosts, monsters, and undead roam after midnight and attack humans. While in the forest on the sand dunes, a group of Dragons descended from ocean Dinosaurs is arriving. We have a main storyline and quests that we are given and must complete. We can count on the help of an Earth God. There is a map that shows us the way. Combat is made up of various combos that we will only learn as we level up, and this only happens by completing quests. It's quite challenging because we don't use healing potions, but we have to work hard to survive, learning to hunt, fish, make fire, ride, and navigate our travels. The graphics are simple and retro, and the soundtrack is fitting for the game. Unfortunately, it's only available in English and Chinese; all other languages only have the game interface. It's constantly being updated, and it's certainly a remarkable achievement, considering it was created by just one person. It's not easy, but we appreciate the efforts he makes to continue improving this game.
