DEMON WORK WALK ~hello work poke park 葛葉の魔界大作戦~ takes the basic idea of an arcade runner and gives it a mischievous supernatural personality. Developed by MELPOT and published by Abyss Walker, it places Kuzuha at the center of a strange assignment that quickly turns into a frantic journey through the demon world. What initially appears to be a simple job becomes an obstacle-filled adventure involving monsters, stolen treasure, magical powers, and a persistent Cerberus chasing from behind. The humorous premise suits the compact nature of the game and prevents the experience from taking itself too seriously. The core gameplay is immediately understandable. Kuzuha continuously makes his way through dangerous environments while the player moves sideways, jumps over hazards, slides underneath obstacles, and attacks enemies blocking the route. These familiar runner mechanics make the game approachable, but combat gives it more interaction than a traditional endless runner. Instead of simply weaving around every threat, players can directly fight monsters, making successful runs depend on knowing when to evade and when to attack. Defeating monsters also contributes to the magic system. Enemies can provide magical power, and accumulating enough energy gives Kuzuha access to stronger abilities. This creates a useful relationship between combat and progression during a run. Fighting an enemy is not merely about removing an obstacle because it can provide resources that become valuable against later threats. The system remains accessible rather than becoming a complicated action-RPG mechanic, which is appropriate for the game's fast pace. Cerberus pursuing Kuzuha helps maintain a constant sense of forward momentum. There is little opportunity to slowly study each situation, so recognizing obstacles and reacting quickly becomes increasingly important. Jumping too early, mistiming a slide, or failing to attack at the right moment can interrupt an otherwise strong attempt. Repeated runs gradually become easier as layouts, enemy behavior, and the timing of different actions become familiar. This gives the experience an arcade-like quality where improvement comes as much from player knowledge as raw reflexes. There are additional reasons to keep playing beyond simply reaching the destination. The adventure incorporates different outcomes depending on progression, adding some narrative incentive to repeat the journey. A monster encyclopedia also encourages players to encounter and defeat the creatures scattered throughout the demon world. Completing this collection provides a secondary objective that fits naturally with the combat system. Players interested in completion will therefore have more to pursue than merely finishing a successful run. The presentation benefits greatly from embracing its unusual premise. The demon-world setting allows for exaggerated enemies and hazards, while Kuzuha's involvement gives the project a recognizable identity instead of leaving it as a generic runner. The tone remains playful even when the character is surrounded by dangerous creatures. It feels designed primarily as a short, energetic character-focused experience, yet features such as achievements, cloud functionality, collectible monster information, and branching progression help make it feel more substantial. Its largest accessibility drawback is the language barrier. The game is primarily designed around Japanese, and players who cannot understand the language may have difficulty appreciating the original scenario and the finer details surrounding its characters and endings. The basic action remains relatively intuitive because jumping, sliding, attacking, and collecting resources can largely be understood visually. Even so, understanding the dialogue and narrative context adds considerably to the intended experience. Steam Deck compatibility is officially categorized as Playable rather than fully Verified. A bit challenging in the beginning, but you get better as you play more. The art/music is great and I find the voice lines very Kuzuha-like LOL. Appreciate the game being shared with fans!!!
You'll need to be able to read and understand Japanese but the controls are pretty simple to understand once you know them. It's a lot of fun! Very challenging but I'm determined to clear it with my own power and collect all the achievements!! The art is gorgeous. The music is really nice! And Kuzuha's voice acting is the cherry on top. Thank you for this game!!!!
