Beyond Shadowgate

I'm a huge fan of Deja Vu (PLEASE REMAKE THIS OR EVEN BETTER, A SEQUEL) for the NES and my only disappointment with this game is that the Deja Vu portal was too short and not enough puzzles for my liking. Otherwise, I love everything about this. This game is like a band that broke up 35 years ago and are now coming back together for one last tour and I'M ALL ABOUT IT

This game has a lot of nostalgia for me. It's increased size is great and all the random ways to die are awesome. Only one wasn't predictable so far, but the rest are not so predictable that it diminishes the game. I have no idea how far through the game I am yet, but I haven't felt so stuck yet so that I got too frustrated that I wanted to look up help. The controls on a PC are so much better than the NES. I love jumping in and out for some quick playtime. Quick loading and saving with low hardware requirements makes it great for limited game time.

Having a great experience so far, I am enjoying the similarities of the art and layouts. I thought that the timed events were a great addition that adds a lot to the whole vibe of the gameplay. However, I did note it to be a lot more linear with a bit too much hand-holding, along with back and forth fetching items for people, which can get a little tiresome. There are significantly less 'useless' items that used to be fun as they required a lot of guesswork to figuring them out and if they were to be used at all (some resulting in your demise). Though these may take away from it slightly, I feel it is overall a great and quite entertaining modern sucessor to the original.
