Dude, this game is Gen Z as all heck: the young people with a rainbow of hairstyles, the old authority firuge being cranky and too stubborn for his own good, the dreadfully bisexual demon lord, the main guy literally being Vernias, the list goes on! My skill-issued card claws couldn't vibe with the game's sense of speed, but if you can, definitely pick this up, I doubt you'll regret it.
Aureole - Wings of Hope is a fast-paced platforming adventure that builds its identity around momentum, physics, and precise control rather than traditional running and jumping. Developed by Team Stargazers and published by JanduSoft, it puts players in control of a celestial halo that can roll, bounce, accelerate, and launch across carefully constructed stages. The unusual movement system gives the game an immediate personality of its own, while the emphasis on maintaining speed makes every successful run feel like a combination of platforming and a miniature time trial. The adventure follows the angels Ramila and Ryleth after the Heaven Kingdom is attacked by the forces of Demon King Lazel. With demons returning after a long absence, the pair are cast down into the mortal world and must find a way to return home. The premise provides enough context to give the journey purpose without allowing lengthy storytelling to interrupt the action. Its celestial setting also gives the developers plenty of room for colorful locations and playful fantasy imagery, keeping the atmosphere light and energetic despite the conflict driving the plot. Movement is easily the most important part of the experience. Instead of carefully walking between platforms, players need to understand how acceleration, slopes, jumps, rebounds, and positioning affect the halo's trajectory. Basic controls are approachable, but achieving consistently fast runs requires practice. A poorly timed movement can destroy accumulated momentum, while a perfectly executed sequence can send the halo flying through large portions of a stage with remarkable speed. This creates a rewarding skill curve where improvement is noticeable, especially when revisiting a level that once seemed difficult. The stages are designed to encourage both progression and experimentation. Different environments introduce obstacles and layouts that force players to reconsider how they use momentum, preventing the central mechanic from becoming completely repetitive. There is often a difference between merely reaching the destination and completing a stage efficiently. Players interested in speedrunning can repeatedly refine their routes, search for more effective approaches, and attempt to reduce their completion times. Global leaderboards provide additional motivation for competitive players who want to compare their performances with others. Collectibles add another layer to the level design. Racing directly toward the finish is not always the only worthwhile approach, as exploration can reveal optional items that reward players willing to investigate less obvious areas. This creates an interesting contrast between speed and completion. One run might be dedicated to achieving the fastest possible time, while another can focus on carefully searching a stage. Steam achievements further support this completion-oriented side of the game and provide additional goals for players who want more than simply finishing the main journey. Visually, the game favors bright colors and an animated style that fits its fantastical premise. Environments remain easy to read even when movement becomes rapid, an important quality for a platformer where players frequently need to react while traveling at considerable speed. The energetic soundtrack complements this approach and helps maintain the rhythm of repeated attempts. There is also a playful sense of humor running through the presentation, preventing the experience from taking its angels-versus-demons storyline too seriously. The biggest potential drawback comes directly from the mechanic that makes the game interesting. Physics-driven movement can produce moments of frustration when a minor error sends the player in an unintended direction or ruins an otherwise excellent attempt. Anyone who expects the immediate responsiveness of a conventional character-based platformer may need time to adjust. Replaying stages is also fundamental to getting the most f…
Real fun game! Can be a bit janky at times but it's an otherwise well-rounded and challenging experience. I always felt motivated to grind for gold times in each stage. I think it's missing some crucial however - not being able to turn off screenshake, hide speed burst effects and hide debris particles often makes it hard to see where you are on the screen and made the time trials a much more frustrating experience at times than they otherwise would have been. It's also a bit dialogue-heavy for my taste but that says more about me, really. Still - if you enjoy time trials and route optimisation it's worth checking out.
