Worlds Upon The Wind

I'm a very picky rougelike/lite guy who hates deckbuilding with a passion. But there is just something about this game that sells the whole thing. It's the whole package, it's so well crafted and utilizes the setting and gameplay mechanics perfectly. Even the balance manages to be well thought out and rarely do you feel blindsides by some unforeseen problem. Most of the time you expect the RNG to trip you up when playing rougelikes but somehow this little game has it all figured out. Truly one of the best rougelikes I have ever played. Also one of, if not the best artstyles of any rougelikes. The demo also has an obscene amount of hours you can put into it before it stops you, so go try the demo.

I tried the demo for like 3 minutes and it didn't grab me, but after a week or two I decided to give it another go. And I ended up playing this all night until 5am somehow? Like for real, what an enchanting game. But not just vibes—the mechanics really build as you play so the roguelike deck-building piece makes you want to do just one more expedition. Also, bonus on top, so much of the artwork is based on real Japanese historical art and they have an option to help you learn Japanese?? I'm not using that but what a cool way to make a game that's mechanically great particularly culturally rich! Amazing work, team!

Pretty solid, not difficult for the genre, very kind on the player and absolutely the opposite of sadistic. Liked the ethos behind it, but it's a good game even removing this aspect from the game
