You dig for resources, upgrade your equipment with the resources, balance the upgrades against living enemies and upgrade efficiency and go exploring for answers. Simple routine, fun game. There are permanent upgrades you can get to use for your next runs. I can roughly get about 30 mins game time per run since you are also chasing time here. There's also an interesting scifi story in here if you fancy it as well.
Very peaceful and a great game to just sit back and grind. Doesn't feel like it's too much work, either. Very easy to get into and stay into.
First the pixel art is amazing. I wish more games looked like this. The lore behind the wall is fun as well. This massive thing to explore and discover is a great idea. The gameplay loop is fun for a while but then gets super repetitive. This is where the game starts to fall short for me. I don't care for the roguelite elements. This game for me could've been top ten if it was a metroidvania. Instead I find myself enjoying the first hour or so then being forced to go back to nothing. What's wrong with actual progression? Keeping upgrades and having a home base to return to? Where you can save your progress... or even save points sprinkled along the wall? Make the wall bigger. Not just up and down but add a 2.5d element to it and make several layers. Avoiding the monster could be part of the experience. Like a boss of a certain area or a hide from it until it passes by type thing... Exploring could help you find lost tech that you could keep to use against it to drive it away for a while instead of... oops you spent an hour doing this now you have to start all over again with nothing. I hate how slow the digging is to start compared to the upgraded digging. It feels like the game just gets going when it drags you back to square one. It doesn't make me want to play it again, it makes me want to stop playing entirely. Metroid as an example.... starts you off very weak. It's no fun to be so fragile... but gradually you get stronger, this makes the game loop feel rewarding and satisfying. Where with this game it feels like you're wasting a lot of your time in the hopes of finding a hidden keepable item before the time runs out. The permanent upgrades... they just don't add much. To me they feel like bandages to cover the wounds of starting over. They take you from surviving 20 minutes to 40 minutes, then 40 to 60.... but in the end you still die and start over. Despite this, I still recommend the game for the heart and soul that it possesses. It's what gets me to come back for at least a little while longer. Please please please.... developer, If you see this, Please consider making a metroidvania version. Thanks.
