The Edge of Allegoria

Take the unfunniest redditor known to man and you get a majority of this games text and dialogue. Its not funny, its extremely creepy towards woman, and it heavily clashes with its own games overarching story as the game can't actually commit to the humor it injects incessantly into the games dialogue as the enemies, setting, and overall gameplay is just standard fantasy affair. I thought people were over exaggerating, but no its really that bad which is a shame because the gameplay is solid and the actual narrative is decent, but I can't recommend the literary works of internet brainrot. Edit The menuing in this game is abysmal. It doesn't start of terrible but as you keep getting new consumables, skills, and equipment it becomes rather annoying that the game refuses to use anything but lists. So after statused you decide to heal it after combat and then proceed to scroll through 20 items to get a burn heal. The game straight out doesn't explain if a move has a cooldown. The game also has low accuracy kill moves which are a pain to master as the game doesn't use its apparent source inspiration pokemon for this which gives ohko moves a higher chance to work depending on the level difference and it won't work on anything higher level than the user so that would balance it as bossed in this game are always higher level than you. The games healing items are weird to a degree I've never seen before, you'll be halfway through the game and be introduced with new healing items that heal that heal 20hp to 40hp which you can find in the second main town, your in the seventh town when these start showing up. Also shops have a set number of consumables which means most of them lack certain items like status clears or decent healing items they just don't that except one shop. Also their are sidequests that want certain enemy drops which is only a issue because enemy drops are the only way to make money through the game which means if you sold it you just got to farm it which leads to a rather strange issues the random encounter rate is really low making this a major pain, but good news there is a way to fix it which requires going through the most of the game and defacing a statue which you have no reason to even interact with let alone. Which leads to a related topic the game has lot of chests most of it have heals that you out scaled ages ago or mimic. Oh mimics the blight of any adventurer but if defeated you gain great rewards except in this game it only drops junk that sells for a bit which would be fine but there is over 50 mimics in this game they drop nothing of note, are pain to fight, and are used as the only minibosses to block off areas which wouldn't be as bad if their were different variants of mimics but there isn't any and their moveset doesn't change either. Also multi-hit attacks are extremely strong and unfair, only when used by an enemy. Because for some reason the game decided to hand out multi-hit moves that have decent base power rather frequently later on and some of these moves can hit up to 8 times. Its not fun or balanced your punished for existing.

If you want an RPG that kicks your ass, makes fun of you while you do it, and refuses to hold your hand, buy this immediately. Absolute banger.

Very fun game. Plenty of exploration to do and loads of different builds you can do for your character. The story is also pretty funny, especially if you are a 90’s kid. Most of the negative reviews of the game are a bunch of overly sensitive babies that don’t enjoy darker humor.
