Narrative-based games are good depending on two factors: is the story good and do you like the characters. The answer to both in this case is an exuberant yes. All of the rarities are unique, have their own thoughts and opinions, and their own hopes and dreams in a dark and hopeless world. I also like that the game is not just set in a fictional Hong Kong/Kowloon setting, but in the early 1990s as well. So many of the problems of information and communication are things we take for granted in the modern day. I went to Hong Kong in the late 1990s and several times after that. I love the fact that all the signs in the game are also printed in English, which they generally wouldn't be. I also find it amusing that this is Hong Kong through a Japanese lens, so there's going to be a lot of differences and a certain amount of misinterpretation (I lived in Japan for a couple years). The combat is fun. I think the parry system works, especially in duels, and the body swap mechanics are well implemented. I like that enemies aren't going to notice you jump from one person to another instantly. Some characters are definitely superior to others, but you'll find someone that's ideal for you. Just know that each character is unique, so not all of them are going to be able to parry multiple opponents at once, and only a few are going to be able to attack without hurting bystanders. Not everyone is going to have great heals or damage either. Like I said, experiment until you find what works for you, and if you're struggling with the combat, delete every Souls-like game from your PC and wear a badge of shame. In all, I love this game. Double-A quality games need more love. This game was clearly made by developers that care, which is a rare thing these days. Highly recommended.

Slitterhead is a rough around the edges hidden gem. It brings to mind Deadly Premonition with it's unorthodox design choices and janky execution, albeit it's technically in a far better state. These quirks of its in my opinion bring it much more charm than they detract from the experience. I had moments where I was frustrated with the mechanics but in the end of the day it was my own fault for not properly interfacing with the mechanics. The game is overpriced in my honest opinion but it is worth it to pick it up from a sale, just temper your expectations and try to let yourself get accustomed to the quirky controls if they don't click immediately, the game will reward you with such awesome science horror story and creepy vibes.

Beautiful setting, music, story and characters! Gameplay is fun, it can get a bit repetitive at times, I suggest playing on easy difficulty.
