One of the finest indie JRPGs ever made. A simple but compelling battle system, pacing that packs an emotional punch while respecting your time, and some of the most endearing and compelling characters in the genre. If Chained Echoes was FF6, this is Chrono Trigger. This game flew under the radar but I believe was among the best if 2025. If you love SNES era JRPGs, there is zero reason not to play Quartet. Also there's a talking hippo.

If you like classic JRPGs, you'll probably like this game. The story was interesting, I either really liked the characters or wound up liking them eventually, and I thought the dialogue was well written. It took me around 20 hours to beat in hard mode, my playtime says 30 but I left it on overnight once. My only real complaint is that it felt like despite being able to use 8 characters, there wasn't much synergy between any of them. The characters all have pretty obvious roles, but some are way more useful than others. IE: I didn't find much use for Alex beyond piledriver or her earth element, but Zikaron is my mfin' boy with decrepify as no one seemed to be immune to getting debuffed until they're hitting you for nothing, even in hard mode. I also think the stats and what they actually change could be conveyed a bit better. Hard to determine if +1 strength is better than +1 mag if the character uses both, and it's not made clear if they effect every character the same.
