I loved the demo for this game, it's got chill vibes, some variety and some recycled(not that it's bad) roguelike ideas, but the problem is - after purchasing the game, with the unlocks I had, I spent 66 minutes to finish two biomes I haven't seen yet, and spent my last unlock points to unlock a...cosmetic pet crab. One soundtrack, each game ends up pretty much with having most sets for your build maxed out, there are like 5-6 builds and that's it. There are no higher difficulties, you can only challenge yourself to see how fast you can pay the debt. For an early access I'd call it a decent start, thin on content. For a full release -which this is- I really wouldn't recommend it. Buy it maybe on a 75-90% sale if you want to chill for like 2-3 hours and immediately forget about the game the moment you quit. Maybe it's just my expectations, but I played a ton of more substantial games at this same price.
good but short (finished in under 2 hours)
Try to catch enough fish to pay off a loan. As you play, you can unlock new anglers and upgrades. You have a set amount of bait to catch fish and when you run out, you go to the shop to sell fish and buy items. Pros: - Relaxing fishing game. First map uses Arrow buttons to catch fish or junk. New map will have different actions. - Different builds to try out. I won my first run with a throw back and ancient fish build. - Smooth progression via upgrades. Afer losing or completing a run, you get money to spend on upgrades. Cons: - Not able to take Steam screenshots. - A strange glitch happened that erased my progress. I sent a message to the developer, but he/she said they will look into it. Suggestions: - UI/menu could be improved. For items with the same set bonuses, I would recommend making the box the same color so player can easily identify similar items. This is a common feature in other Roguelikes. - Add autosave so players can exit anytime and resume. - Add sell all button or shortcut so don't need to click each fish to sell. - Change pixel images for beer so they are not the same. For example, I accidentally bought flat dock ale because I thought it was prize winning beer. The bottle images are very similar expect one had a missing bottle neck. Conclusion: A fun fishing roguelike game, but replay value may vary based on whether you enjoy fishing games. My playtime is low since I did not want to redo the first fishing area. Finding new fish to catch is interesting and there are different anglers to unlock for players that enjoy unlocking new ways to play. Follow IndieGems for more reviews like this one.
