Natsumi and the Absurd Academy is an unconventional RPG developed by スタジオツンエクゼ and published by 072 Project and 072 News. Rather than presenting a typical coming-of-age school story, the game embraces a surreal and comedic approach that turns an ordinary academy setting into a playground of bizarre personalities, strange events, and unpredictable situations. The result is a niche but memorable experience that combines light role-playing mechanics, exploration, character development, and humor into a compact adventure that rarely takes itself seriously. The story centers on Natsumi, a transfer student who moves in with her grandmother while her father works abroad. What begins as a routine adjustment to a new school quickly transforms into a series of increasingly ridiculous encounters. The academy is populated by eccentric students, questionable authority figures, and faculty members whose behavior often borders on the absurd. Instead of focusing on dramatic plot twists or emotional storytelling, the narrative thrives on its unpredictable humor and exaggerated scenarios. Every new interaction feels designed to surprise the player, creating a world where common sense is constantly challenged. A major part of the game revolves around managing Natsumi’s growth over a limited period of time. Players are tasked with improving important attributes such as intelligence and stamina while exploring the academy and interacting with its inhabitants. This creates a satisfying gameplay loop where each day contributes toward long-term progression. Time management plays an important role, encouraging players to balance exploration, training, and story events in order to reach their objectives before the deadline arrives. Although the game’s school setting might suggest a purely narrative experience, it also incorporates turn-based combat. Battles occur throughout the adventure and serve as both progression gates and opportunities to test Natsumi’s development. The combat system is relatively straightforward, prioritizing accessibility over complexity, but it succeeds in adding variety to the overall experience. Training activities and academy facilities contribute directly to character strength, giving players a reason to engage with different aspects of the school environment beyond simply advancing the story. The cast is one of the game's strongest assets. Nearly every character is written with an exaggerated personality that reinforces the title’s absurd premise. Whether interacting with authority figures who seem completely detached from reality or classmates whose behavior becomes increasingly outrageous, players are constantly exposed to fresh comedic situations. Natsumi herself acts as a grounded protagonist, making the surrounding madness feel even more entertaining. Her reactions often mirror those of the player, helping maintain a sense of connection amid the chaos. Visually, the game delivers colorful anime-inspired artwork that complements its humorous tone. Character portraits are expressive and help bring the cast to life, while the environments effectively establish the academy setting despite their relatively simple presentation. The art style is not technically groundbreaking, but it possesses enough personality to support the game's comedic atmosphere. The visual design consistently reinforces the lighthearted and eccentric nature of the adventure. The soundtrack also contributes positively to the experience. Background music and battle themes help establish the mood of different scenes, ranging from casual school interactions to combat encounters. While the audio design may not be the game's primary attraction, it provides enough energy and variety to keep the journey engaging. Combined with the visual presentation, the music helps create a distinctive identity that separates the game from more traditional RPGs. Despite its charm, the game is not without flaws. Its heavy reliance on absurd humor means that player…
Game is set up for you to explore, With in the first 10 mins of the game I went though 2 different doors both crashed the game. If they aren't meant to be used, Lock them, make them not accessible. I really wanted to like this game Simple game on RPG maker it shouldn't have these kind of mistakes released in steam.
A fun short light hearted H game that nails the absurdity. Will take you about 3 hours to beat though so probably want to get it on a sale.
