Melon Journey: Bittersweet Memories

Новая игра, которая покорила своей графикой и историей Доброго вечера всем, кто знает английский или готов пользоваться переводчиком/русификатором для прохождения данной игры. Она вышла совсем недавно, но лежала уже несколько месяцев в списке желаемого и ждала своего часа. Пиксельная зеленая ретро графика как на старых компьютерных играх сразу привлекла внимание. Я думала, что игра будет с детским сюжетом, но очень ошибалась В юморном стиле при поднесена проблема нынешнего реального мира, которая заставляет задуматься. Безумно красивые локации и атмосфера игры. Интересные и забавные персонажи и прекрасное музыкальное сопровождение. Покупала на скидке, но хочется сказать, что и за полную стоимость можно смело брать, чтобы поблагодрить разработчиков за данную игру! 10 дынек из 10! РАЗРЕШИТЕ ДЫНИ!

Melon Journey: Bittersweet Memories is a short mostly linear walking sim type game. There isn't really any gameplay or puzzles, you mainly just walk around talking to people who tell you to go places to talk to other people. It's cutesy and funny with lots of hidden completely optional interactions. The plot starts with your best friend missing but in the process of searching for him you discover a sinister conspiracy. The animal world is about to change and your getting involved in forces far beyond your control. Not really though, it's all played for laughs. It's a slow game, literally. Movement isn't very fast even when you unlock fast movement. I would advise increasing the speed of the game using CheatEngine or something because otherwise you may find going back and forth after you've investigated a place completely somewhat grating. I don't know if I'd pay full price for this game, but on sale or in a bundle I think it's a reasonable way to spend an afternoon.

Don't drink melon soda. 3.4 hours for one playthrough without guides, 16/20 achievements obtained just by being curious and sticking my nose places it maybe shouldn't have been! Which is what Melon Journey excels at: taking you on a journey made interesting by the level of curiosity you bring along the ride. It's great at making you feel smart, when you have an inkling on where you need to go, and then by walking into the right room at the right moment, you unlock another part of the story. There's a nostalgia here too, referencing gameboy-aesthetics as well as game mechanics (needing to wait for the animation to finish before you can move). The two main characters, Honeydew and Cantaloupe, allow for naming inputs at the start. I put in my name and the name of my closest friend, and it filled out blanks that the story leaves. It feels like a purposeful choice, since there is this option to choose the names, and it worked for me! In the writing I saw commentaries on themes such as manipulation, addiction, capitalism, inherited status, and rebellion. And there's lesbians! (Their role is fairly minor, but I like that they're there.) Overall I found the humor charming, and I saw a story in there that was worth reading, too. Minus points for the secret ending, that I did not get (since I didn't complete all character quests, I was missing one which is the requirement for the secret ending popping after the credits) feeling like the "true" ending. It feels unnecessary that this is hidden - but I could watch a two minute video to get caught up on what I missed there. I did enjoy my time with Melon Journey, and I got a great deal, getting this on a sale!
