Great blend of twin stick shooter and rpg components. Awesome aesthetic and sound, and it seemlessly uses clips from the youtube channel. I like the cozy adventure feel of it too.
Developed by The Bitfather and published by Headup, Look Mum No Computer delivers an unusual blend of twin-stick shooting, action RPG progression, and music-driven creativity that immediately distinguishes itself from more conventional indie releases. Drawing inspiration from the inventive world of musician and electronics creator Sam Battle, the game transforms modular synthesizers into both powerful weapons and dynamic musical instruments. Instead of simply equipping stronger gear as the adventure progresses, players are encouraged to build, modify, and experiment with electronic modules that influence combat performance while simultaneously reshaping the soundtrack. This fusion of gameplay and music forms the foundation of an experience that feels genuinely fresh and imaginative. The adventure unfolds in the eccentric town of Soldersworth, where malfunctioning machines have created widespread chaos. Rather than fighting through ordinary fantasy dungeons or futuristic battlefields, players dive inside these broken machines to repair them from within. Accompanied by Sam and his loyal synthesizer companion Kosmo, the journey introduces a colorful cast of quirky characters, bizarre enemies, and imaginative locations that constantly reinforce the game's playful personality. Whether facing animated electronic components or absurd opponents like undead vegetables, every encounter reflects the game's lighthearted tone and inventive sense of humor. The pixel-art presentation enhances this atmosphere with expressive animations and vibrant environments that successfully combine retro charm with modern visual polish. Combat is built around fast-paced twin-stick shooting, but its greatest strength lies in the customization system. Rather than collecting standard firearms, players gather electronic components that can be assembled into modular synth weapons. Every module carries unique offensive properties while also contributing to the evolving musical score. This creates an engaging relationship between gameplay and audio, as changing equipment doesn't simply alter combat effectiveness—it also transforms how the game sounds during exploration and battles. The result is a rewarding system that encourages experimentation, allowing players to discover combinations that suit both their preferred fighting style and musical taste. Crafting plays a central role throughout the campaign. As players recover new parts from defeated enemies and hidden areas, they unlock additional possibilities for constructing increasingly creative synth modules. Many of these inventions are inspired by real-life projects associated with Sam Battle, including delightfully unconventional creations that reflect his engineering background. This approach gives crafting genuine purpose beyond simple stat upgrades, since every newly built device can noticeably change combat strategies and open fresh tactical options. Exploration is consistently rewarded, making each discovery feel meaningful rather than collectible filler. Beyond combat, the game offers a satisfying mix of exploration, side quests, environmental secrets, and memorable boss encounters. The machine interiors are filled with hidden paths, eccentric NPCs, and optional objectives that encourage players to thoroughly investigate every area. Side missions help flesh out the strange world while rewarding useful resources for future upgrades. Boss fights provide some of the campaign's most entertaining moments by demanding effective use of customized equipment and quick reflexes. Since there are multiple viable approaches to combat, players are free to adapt their builds instead of relying on a single dominant strategy. One of the game's most impressive achievements is its commitment to interactive music. Instead of treating the soundtrack as passive background audio, it becomes an active gameplay mechanic that evolves according to the player's equipment choices. Every modification to the synthesizer se…
Been following this dude on YouTube for a long time. I had no idea he made this game and just discovered it two days ago. It's pretty damn cool and runs well (even on Deck; played for almost an hour and a half my first session and the battery only went down from 89% to 71%. Solid 60FPS. Amazing music, fun sounds, great art style, engaging gameplay and upgrade path. A real gem, especially if you're a musician or synth-freak. Another good one to check out is Rogue Voltage.
