The game is quite nice and has some depth (potentially). It feels like a casual The Battle for Wesnoth. However, the campaign is very simple. Once you learn the basics, you can slice through it without any challenge at all.
A nice and easy tactical game. With clear nubmers and very easy gameplay. The magor plus for me is pure numbers in dmg instead of % to hit and other terrain, armor, moon phase modifiers. A huge variety of different races and units. Some fun "spells" to spice the battle. Plus it has pleasant art style and cheap price.
Last Regiment takes an unusual approach to turn-based strategy by blending tactical battles, card-driven abilities, army construction, and simultaneous orders into one compact experience. Developed and published by Boomzap Inc, it avoids the sprawling complexity often associated with strategy games and instead concentrates on relatively fast battles where positioning and anticipation are crucial. Its fantasy setting also refuses to take itself too seriously, filling the continent of Kothia with pirates, orcs, mechanical constructs, explosive Fae, flying squirrels, and chainsaw-wielding elves. The simultaneous turn system is easily one of its strongest ideas. Rather than watching one side move an entire army before responding, players prepare their decisions and then see those orders resolved together. This turns prediction into an important tactical skill. You might order a unit to attack an enemy position only to discover that the target has moved elsewhere, while a carefully anticipated enemy advance can be intercepted at exactly the right moment. Battles consequently feel like contests of planning rather than simple exchanges of attacks. Combat takes place across hex-based maps where controlling territory, maintaining useful positions, and choosing the correct moment to advance can be more valuable than blindly pursuing enemy units. The mechanics are streamlined enough to understand without spending hours studying complicated rules, yet there is sufficient depth to reward experimentation. Terrain and positioning interact with the different troops and abilities available to each commander, making seemingly minor decisions capable of changing the direction of a battle. Army building adds another layer of strategy. There are ten heroes associated with different factions, and each brings a particular identity to the battlefield. Players construct regiments using combinations of heroes, troops, and special powers, with more than 40 cards available. The system encourages experimentation because a regiment is more effective when its units and abilities complement one another rather than simply being filled with individually powerful options. Power cards make battles considerably more chaotic and entertaining. These can produce dramatic effects such as calling down lightning or meteors, while other abilities can temporarily interfere with enemy weapons. Their presence means an apparent advantage is never completely secure. Proper timing becomes essential because using a powerful card too early can leave you without an answer when the opponent launches a more dangerous attack later. The single-player campaign provides context for all of this tactical warfare. The story explores Kothia as different native inhabitants and foreign forces become involved in conflicts surrounding the continent. One important character is Olivia de Roza, a former pirate who arrives while searching for two missing men. What begins as a personal objective gradually leads into larger conspiracies, competing interests, monsters, machines, and questions about who can actually be trusted. The narrative is not merely an excuse for disconnected battles, as it helps introduce the world's factions and personalities while steadily expanding the conflict. Players who prefer battles without campaign progression can use Skirmish mode against computer-controlled opposition. Multiplayer expands the concept further by supporting battles involving up to eight players. Simultaneous turns make considerable sense here because participants can prepare decisions together instead of constantly waiting for everyone else to finish lengthy individual turns. The downside is that an older niche strategy game naturally has a smaller potential multiplayer population, making the single-player content especially important for its long-term appeal. Another welcome feature is the custom map editor. Players can construct battlefields and share their creations through Steam Worksho…
