Kādomon: Hyper Auto Battlers Prologue is a cute little auto battler that mixes monster collecting with roguelite progression, and I ended up enjoying the combination quite a bit. I am travelling through randomly generated areas, collecting Kādomon, building a team and watching them fight automatically while I make the important choices around the battles. It has a very obvious creature collecting influence, but the auto battler setup gives it a different pace. I am not directly controlling every attack, so most of my attention goes into deciding which creatures to use, how they work together and what upgrades are worth taking. The collecting is probably my favourite part. The prologue has more than 180 Kādomon listed in the Kādodex, although only part of that collection is available to build with during the prologue. Each creature has its own type, passive abilities and activated abilities, and there are 12 types to work around. I like having to think about combinations rather than simply picking whichever creature has the highest numbers. A good team can become much stronger when the abilities actually complement each other, and that gives me a reason to experiment instead of sticking with the same creatures every time. The evolution system gives the runs a nice sense of progression too. My Kādomon can level up and evolve during a run, and the prologue also lets the starter creatures reach a special Hyper Evolution form. There are also rare misprints, which are colour variants that can appear during battles. I like these little collection goals because they give me something to look for beyond simply beating the next boss. There are also items that can give permanent buffs or powerful effects, and I have to decide when those are worth using rather than treating every item as an automatic upgrade. The actual battles are simple to watch, but there is still plenty going on underneath them. I have to arrange my team properly, build around abilities and types, and adapt when the game gives me different creatures or items. Elite enemies and bosses give the stronger teams something to prove themselves against, while random events can change what happens during a run. I enjoy that uncertainty because I cannot completely plan everything before starting. I have to work with what I find and try to turn a collection of random opportunities into something that actually works. The biggest weakness for me is that the prologue naturally feels limited compared with a full creature collecting RPG. There is a lot to discover, but I am still playing a preview version rather than a massive finished adventure. The auto battler format can also make some battles feel like I am watching my decisions play out rather than actively playing. That is obviously the point of the genre, but I still occasionally want more direct control. Once I have found a strong combination, some fights can also become fairly predictable because I already know the setup is doing most of the work for me. I also think the game is strongest when I am experimenting rather than simply trying to finish a run as quickly as possible. The different types, passive abilities, items, evolutions and random events give me plenty of small decisions, but the presentation remains very straightforward. The cute creature designs do a lot of the work in giving the game personality, and I like the relaxed feeling it has. It does not need a huge story because the collecting and team building are clearly supposed to be the main attraction. For a free prologue, I think there is a surprisingly good amount here to explore. Overall, Kādomon: Hyper Auto Battlers Prologue is a very enjoyable introduction to the idea. I like the creature collecting, team building, evolutions, rare misprints and randomised runs, and the different abilities give me enough room to experiment with different combinations. The auto battler format is not going to suit me every time, and the limited prologue content me…
Very good, nice team building and ideas. Even with its similarities with other creature catching games. only thing holding it back would be its lack of content that will likely be changed in its full release.
