Gemblades is like playing a deckbuilding board game without other players messing up your plans! From reading the other reviews, I wasn't expecting there to be a lot of content or any challenge, but it seems there is some misunderstanding about what is in the game (and perhaps it was added after those reviews). Invasions 1-5 are the tutorial. You should be able to beat them quickly. If that's all you see, yeah, the game is bare bones. Then comes Gauntlet, which is extremely difficult, although possible. I think this is meant to be the "main" game mode. There is also Hoard mode, which I have not yet figured out how to beat. So if you want something very light and easy, go for Invasion levels. If you want a challenge that you can bash your head against for days, there are two modes for you! Gameplay is simple on rules with complex strategy. Your cards will generally give you some combination of gold, power, and gems. Starter cards all give 1 gold. Buy better cards with gold. Defeat enemies with power. Get a certain amount of gems and defeat all bosses before the turn limit expires, and you win! Overall I'm very pleased with the game but I do have some suggestions: 1. Nowhere(?) does it mention that you can ban cards from the recruit deck. I found this and was like, "aha!". It definitely helps, but it's very hidden. I don't even know when it unlocked. 2. The difference between "recruits", "allies", and "gemblades" is hard to grasp. I think recruits are everything, including enemies, allies are non-familiar, non-enemy cards, and gemblades are all non-enemy cards? The distinction is important or else some cards won't work the way you expect. 3. It's not mentioned anywhere that you can only "adopt" one familiar in gauntlet mode. This is probably quite necessary for balance purposes, but I was confused at first like, "Where is that card I know I had???". Also I think you can only persist one copy of each card? I didn't quite understand at first why some didn't show up or vanished when selected. Thanks for reading, and thanks for making this awesome game! ^_^
Really fun deckbuilder with great art. Has vibes of classic Board Game DB like Ascension and such. A bit on the easy side, but the Gauntlet game mode makes up for it a bit more.
Pretty interesting! be aware that this is not really a Deckbuilder roguelike but more a Arcade Solitaire / Board game if you get what i mean, everything that this game does i feel like it can be replicated with real life cards. Anyway it's a breath of fresh air and it doesn't do anything other than gameplay so there is no lore no currency to spend, that's why it's more of an arcade game but that's still pretty cool, really recommend if you are looking for some new formula on card games.
