The game is really fun. There are some things that could be improved (like employees winning experience) but you can use mods to have that.

Game Dev Tycoon Started in a garage. Ended up emotionally dependent on review scores from four imaginary critics. Game Dev Tycoon is dangerously simple. Make a game. Pick a genre. Pick a topic. Move some sliders. Release it. Watch the reviews come in. Either become rich... or immediately question every decision you've ever made. "This combination should work." 5/10. "Okay, I'll improve the engine." 6/10. "Fine, I'll spend all my research points and make the perfect sequel." 4/10. Excellent. What makes the game so addictive is the progression. You start alone in a tiny garage making garbage for ancient computers, then slowly hire employees, create better engines, research new technology, move into larger offices, and eventually become the exact kind of giant game company you probably complained about five minutes earlier. The management loop is simple, but it works. Figuring out which genres, topics, platforms and development priorities fit together is genuinely satisfying once you start understanding the system. My biggest complaint is that the review scores can sometimes feel completely arbitrary. You can make something that looks perfect on paper and somehow receive the gaming equivalent of: "It's okay." Then another game you made while half-paying attention becomes a 10/10 masterpiece. So basically, an accurate simulation of the games industry. The campaign also moves pretty quickly. Sometimes I wish the years slowed down a little so I had more time to experiment before the entire gaming industry moved on without me. But after nearly 20 hours, I completely understand why people keep coming back to it. 9/10 Simple, addictive, and surprisingly hard to put down. Spent millions developing my dream game. Critics gave it a 6. Now I understand game developers.

Game Dev Tycoon is quite a good game if you want to experience what it's like to be a game developer. As some people have pointed out, it is similar to "Game Dev Story" but with some differences in gameplay that can make them be separate from each other. The game itself can be difficult for many players, as the game has a learning curve when crafting your game and hoping for it to land. The game can also be even more challenging for those who wants to play it on Pirate Mode, which was based on a pirated copy of the game that has a punishing anti-piracy measure where your company will lose their money from the games being pirated. Overall, this is a good sim game that it's worth a try.
