I really didn't think it was possible to produce a truly worthy followup to the masterpiece that was ***'s Quest One. They announced the sequel and the gaming world collectively held their breath - did we really need a followup to one of the greatest games of all time? Well, here we are in The Year of Our Lord 2026 and I am happy to report that this game absolutely lives up to the hype. You, the player, get to experience the life of *** in a way never thought possible. A strong contender for Game of the Year if not the Decade.
***'s Quest II is the kind of indie adventure that makes its intentions obvious almost immediately. It is vulgar, deliberately stupid, frequently chaotic, and completely comfortable building an entire game around crude jokes and bizarre situations. Developed and published by Ancient Computer Tech, it follows a character named *** on an adventure involving strange weapons, unpleasant NPCs, mysterious Bible Crystals, hidden secrets, and an assortment of situations that rarely take themselves seriously. Rather than attempting to disguise its rough edges behind an elaborate narrative, the game embraces them as part of its personality. At its core, this is a 2D action-adventure built around exploration and combat. Traveling through its unusual world means dealing with enemies, experimenting with acquired items, navigating different environments, searching for secrets, and eventually confronting bosses. There are also platforming sections and other challenges that break up the exploration. The mechanics can intentionally feel awkward or unpredictable at times, but there is more substance here than the absurd presentation initially suggests. Players still need to pay attention to enemy behavior and learn how available equipment can help them progress. Boss encounters are especially effective at revealing the contrast between the game's comedy and its actual difficulty. The presentation might encourage players to treat everything as a joke, yet certain battles can demand persistence. Failure can occur repeatedly before an encounter finally clicks. This gives the adventure some genuine resistance instead of allowing the player to casually walk through every situation. It can occasionally become frustrating, especially when combined with the game's unconventional design choices, but overcoming these obstacles provides a satisfying counterweight to the relentless humor. Exploration is another significant component. Secrets have deliberately been scattered around the world, rewarding players who investigate unusual areas instead of moving directly toward the next apparent objective. This suits the game's unpredictable personality because discovering something strange is often as entertaining as obtaining a practical reward. The overall progression has an old-school quality that expects players to experiment and explore rather than constantly providing explicit directions. Those accustomed to objective markers and extensive tutorials may need some adjustment. The comedy will ultimately determine whether someone enjoys the experience. Toilet humor, fart jokes, sexual references, profanity, absurd food, ridiculous television, stupid conversations, and intentionally obnoxious characters are fundamental parts of its identity. The writing does not attempt subtlety. Even the game's descriptions openly mock its characters, mechanics, difficulty, and storytelling. There is a noticeable self-awareness behind the nonsense, making the experience feel like an elaborate parody of both adventure games and immature internet humor. This approach also makes the game extremely dependent on personal taste. Someone who enjoys intentionally ridiculous indie projects may find its commitment to stupidity surprisingly charming. Players searching for emotional storytelling, sophisticated dialogue, serious fantasy world-building, or restrained comedy are unlikely to get much from it. Its NPCs generally exist to deliver jokes, strange dialogue, or deliberately annoying interactions rather than establish complex personalities. That limitation appears intentional, but intentional simplicity is still simplicity. The pixel-art presentation complements the experience well. Its 2D visuals give the adventure an old-school appearance while allowing exaggerated enemies, strange locations, fantasy imagery, and ridiculous events to exist together without feeling completely disconnected. A realistic presentation would probably work against the comedy. Instead, the vi…
