DRAGON QUEST TREASURES

If you're a Dragon Quest, this is a must play. It's a spin on the DQ Monsters series and has a lot of unique features and gameplay. Not too much grinding involved and the game rewards are satisfying. Without completing all the side quests, the game should be completed in about 40 to 50 hours.

I tried really hard to like it but I don't understand the appeal of the core gameplay loop. Treasure locations are random, the islands are not fun to traverse and severely limit party selection based on what mobility options the monsters offer and chimera wings are not available regularly so when I get fatigued of playing I can't just warp home and stop. Dying prompts you to load a save like the game was made 20 years ago, there is no restriction on when you can save but the game just refuses to autosave unless you use a campfire so you have to remember to save constantly for when a freak King Slime attack actually deals damage to you because the rest of the game is so insultingly easy that its not hard to farm enemies over twice your level but to what end? Leveling up does nothing, the main character is so bad in combat you are best served ignoring enemies while your party fights to pick up flowers or rocks you need for crafting. Every single time I got more information about one of the 7 dragon stones the game cut to solid black with a text box asking if I wanted to set that specific dragon stone quest as my active quest and when I picked "no" it then gave me the same tutorial about how I can open my quest log and set it as my active quest later if I want to, no pressure, but you really should make this your active quest. The UI is full of these unforced errors where backing out of a previous menu or going deeper into a menu locks the cursor for a while so you have to slowly menu to select different medals or look at items. I am in the target audience for Dragon Quest spinoffs, I always enjoy the experimentation, DQ Builders, Monsters, Mystery Dungeon, Rocket Slime, DQ Heroes, but I just do not understand this game is or who it was for. Running around the islands waiting for random treasure blips and getting random gold values that level my gang up doesn't do anything for me, my character is weak (like in Builders) but feels like they can't contribute at all unlike in Builders where you're at least making gear for your party and wearing it yourself. Even in DQB2 where you're given Malroth to fight for you and he gains strength on level ups, fights still go by faster if the Builder pitches in but I just feel like I'm supposed to watch combat happen, wait for a treasure blip and then walk 10 paces away to where the treasure vision was obviously at. Was this a game for children? Did I buy a game for children without realizing it and now I'm yelling at clouds? No, surely, the children are out of touch, not me.

Very little story and repetitive quest. Overall, not a bad game, buy on sale. Multiple crashes, usually when getting attacked by other teams to steal the treasure you're carrying. Save often. Played on steamdeck and fps was good. Many many monsters missing from this game.
