Great game! It's nice and colorful. I love the enemy explosions and sound design in general. Challenging, but doesn't feel impossible. The ships look great and I love how the powerups change not only the shot itself, but the look of the ship. Anyway, it's a fun game and I'm looking forward to making it further than the 3rd stage. The practice mode is also helpful. You can select where you wanna start in the level (I selected the boss for stage two, for example). After half an hour of practice, I went from losing 4-5 lives to that boss every time to losing only 2 lives (WHILE not bombing). It also helped me learn the patterns of the enemies and their shot so that I could notice a tendency which made it a lot easier to position myself correctly. Good aesthetic, good vibe, good sound. Would recommend!

Crisis Wing is a tightly focused vertical shoot ’em up that embraces the spirit of classic arcade shooters without burying the experience beneath unnecessary systems. Developed and published by Pieslice Productions, it draws heavily from the colorful, aggressive style associated with shooters of the 1990s. Its priorities are immediately clear: destroy enemy formations, weave through incoming fire, collect weapon upgrades, defeat increasingly dangerous bosses, and push toward a better performance on the next attempt. Rather than relying on narrative spectacle, the game places mechanical skill and repetition at the center of its appeal. The main campaign takes players through seven stages filled with enemy waves, environmental backdrops, concentrated projectile patterns, and large boss encounters. Each level functions as both an action challenge and a test of pattern recognition. Simply reacting to bullets is often insufficient once the intensity increases. Learning where enemies appear, determining which targets should be destroyed first, and positioning the ship before dangerous attacks begin can make a significant difference. This creates the familiar arcade rhythm where repeated attempts gradually transform seemingly overwhelming situations into manageable sequences. Combat benefits from a straightforward weapon system that provides three primary weapon types alongside special sub-weapons. Collecting upgrades noticeably increases offensive strength, giving successful runs a satisfying sense of momentum. The system remains deliberately uncomplicated, allowing players to understand their equipment quickly and concentrate on movement and survival. Losing control of a situation can still be costly, so maintaining firepower becomes part of the tension. The resulting combat feels fast and responsive, particularly when the screen fills with enemies, projectiles, explosions, and weapon effects. Visually, the game commits strongly to its retro identity. Detailed pixel artwork, colorful spaceships, animated explosions, mechanical enemies, and oversized bosses recreate the atmosphere of an older arcade shooter. The presentation is intentionally reminiscent of the 16-bit era rather than pursuing modern realism. Optional CRT-style visual filtering can push that nostalgic appearance even further, while players who prefer cleaner pixels can enjoy the artwork without it. The accompanying FM-inspired soundtrack complements this direction particularly well, supplying energetic music that keeps pace with the constant action. The relatively compact campaign does not represent the full extent of the package. Boss Rush allows players to concentrate on major encounters, making it useful for anyone who particularly enjoys learning and overcoming elaborate boss patterns. Score Attack shifts the emphasis toward maximizing performance, while leaderboard support encourages competitive players to return and improve their results. These additions are important because Crisis Wing is fundamentally designed around replayability rather than a single lengthy playthrough. Practice Mode is one of its most practical features. Infinite lives allow players to repeatedly confront difficult sections and learn enemy behavior without the frustration of constantly restarting a serious attempt. This makes the game more approachable for newcomers while also providing experienced players with a convenient environment for studying troublesome stages. The regular modes retain the challenge expected from the genre, but having a dedicated way to practice prevents difficulty from becoming an unnecessary barrier to improvement. Local cooperative play adds another dimension to the experience. Two players can enter the action together, substantially increasing the amount of firepower and activity occurring on screen. One of my new favorites! Feels like a classic PC ENGINE shooter. Intense but fair gameplay with an excellent difficulty curve. Excellent music & graphics. Highly recommended to classic Toaplan / TechnoSoft / Compile SHMUP fans.
