Cape Hideous

I am fascinated and charmed by these amazing visuals. There is also not much "game" to find here, it's basically just a walking simulator but definitely a great one. Unfortunately I had to leave about 30 minutes in and just noticed afterwards that the game doesn't have any save states. Maybe specify that quitting means losing ALL progress, besides this I got nothing to complain about. (8/10)

A good word to describe Cape Hideous is whimsical. The game's visuals are very strange but deliberately so. Every character and set piece has a unique and unconventional design. The music and sound effects are very soothing, which makes me think they were done that way to make the art look more inviting. For lack of a better term, this game is a walking sim. However, it's a very short but sweet one. If you value uniqueness a lot in video games, Cape Hideous is a must play.

My first exposure to Jack Clover's stuff was his "walk cycle for the main character" animation on twitter from a while back, and I've just been adoring his stuff since. While it's more of an interactive animation/experience than a traditional "game," I have zero regrets finally getting around to checking this out. I'd say his work is kind of in the same family as PilotRedSun, where you can tell that there is really genuine skill hiding behind a "bad" style. Despite the name, I think this game is freakin' gorgeous, there is SUCH a diverse cast of different characters populating the background of the game that makes the area feel genuinely SO alive in a way that I don't see very often. There's such detail in random places that make me just super curious about the various THINGS you see, what they are, what they do, what purpose do things serve, it just creates a ton of charm. I'm sure there was something else I wanted to say, but I'm not remembering it. Oh well! If you can spare a few bucks for a really pretty lil experience, I'd reccomend.
