Beyond Words

Once I had figured out that scrabble strategy is useless, and I was at the mercy of some brutal (or wonderful) power cards and boosters, I stopped hating the game quite so much. I still hate it. It knows when I am making words for legendary triple word scores and smacks me down with an unexpected zero. But there is always another game with the possibility of the golden ticket of the perfectly arranged, perfectly dealt power cards that multiplies scores into the "e".

This a scrabble-like game, with rogue-like elements. I like it! I have used "the word" three times to unlock an achievement, And it feels so damn good.

They can’t say it’s Scrabble Balatro but it’s if Balatro was Scrabble instead of video poker. Balatro is great! Scrabble is great! This combines them well, it’s challenging both as a word game and a numbers game with multipliers and probabilities. The level design provides a lot of replay value and variety, very few of the ideas feel unfair or frustrating. The art design of the UI isn’t my favorite but it never gets in the way of the game.
