Advent NEON®

Likewise, I discovered Advent Neon through the creator's awesome Friday Night Funkin tie-in back in 2021 and preview of the real deal on Newgrounds thereafter, its wicked visuals and soundtrack were always right up my alley so it left an lasting impact. 4 years later (5, when I actually played as of this year) and I really can't believe it's not just a cute stylistic demo, but an actual fully fleshed out game I can support! Am I sure glad to have seen this reach the finish line, unlike the game that put it on the map in the first place lol... But aside from the insane sauce this oozes all over eye to eye, ear to ear, I actually didn't jive much with the main gameplay, only when the adventure was starting to wrap up then the level precincts pander more towards getting a move on with the plot and aren't so hard on my critiques. Overall I felt Neon was rigid in their movements and found it hard to build up any momentum—so very awfully sluggish to get moving against a massive ensemble of quickly timed obstacles and puzzle rooms, which I can't lie is a bit demotivating to work around in a supposed Sonic-like, especially with the complex passive/hostile moveset Neon must also account for one scenario after another. Though it may not hit the spot in main level parts, on boss fights? This is where Neon's unique flash forward/time stop mechanic comes to play that lets you feasibly dash across a good chunk of the selected boss area, and it kicks so much ass combined with their broader combat skill tree you accumulate over time. These are the real highlight of the average experience and finish the otherwise underwhelming levels off on a good note. With all that said, I just can't contain my appreciation for the better part of this game. I love the story and its characters and their designs!! The visual and audio flair is a real treat especially if you're into the Grind Fiction niche this took plenty inspo from. The final encounter above all amassed such an unreal level of hype as the battle flew across space and time, the Rez is infectious and in that moment I just set aside my worries with it all and locked the *** in. I'm so happy this exists on the level it does all these years later and despite everything I love what it represents with its whole heart :) Go Advent Neon!!!!

Was excited for this game for a while and it's kinda disappointing. Offers on the spectacle and visuals but it's just mindless speed and combat. It's too simple normally and still boring when going for S ranks Speed is basically given to you automatically and the combat is just spamming stuff

This game ROCKS. The Sonic vibe goes so hard, and the music is great. Like a Sonic game better than some actual Sonic games. This is a really great experience and is really fun. However, with this being fast paced, it's really annoying when in levels things decide to slow down. Why are there whole sections with currents going the opposite direction of where I'm going? For that to be in this type of game is not a good idea imo. As for platforming sections, I mean of course they are slow but they don't overstay and it's not as bad as slowing my running directly. Also, I don't like how much zoom ins are done during levels, I cant react if there'll be an obstacle or some laser usually. I'm guessing that's testing your knowledge on the level but idk i only want to do a level once. This game look amazing, I'm so impressed. This game needs more attention :>
